Chapter 1

Bonnie walked naked from the shower carrying her dressing gown to her side of the bed, she’d dried herself in the bathroom but was hurrying, she knew her husband was downstairs, but she needed to speak to Leonard.  Leonard her ghost boyfriend as she thought of him had gone back to the spirit world after his foray into the real and their encounter had changed her life forever.  She had experienced much more than sex with a ghost, she’d had a lesbian affair with her co-worker and whilst Maria had been discreet she had remained on good terms with her, making sure they remained the best of friends to ensure she did not spill their secrets.

She looked at the notepaper, the pad that had been at the side of the bed since Leonard first came to visit her, he’d been writing messages for weeks, an occasional kiss or maybe a few messages to help her when she had problems.  She felt like he was her real guardian angel and she loved receiving the little gifts from him.  It was her only way of knowing he was still around.  He had his rules to follow, even when you are dead, she thought, there was still rules and regulations, she cursed those rules and especially the one that meant she would not see him for another fifty years, unless she wondered, if she died before then and even then, would they be allowed to see each other in the spirit world, after all, she did have Steve as her life partner.  She gave plenty of thought to these conundrums and knew she would unlikely ever know the answers until it was her time to pass.

There was nothing on the little pad, it had been the same for almost a week and she was worried, had he abandoned her or was he not allowed to visit her anymore, was there some hierarchy in heaven or wherever he was.  His absence was driving her crazy and she knew this, she had been short tempered with Steve, feeling attacked whenever he asked her a question as to why she was on edge.

She knew she had only a few moments to try to contact him, Steve had been working at home since his last trip away and was in the house when she left for work and there when she got back.  As she knew Leonard could not leave the house then she could only try and contact him there.

A few nights ago, Steve had planned to see a work colleague for drinks but at the last minute that had been cancelled, as he told her, thinking she would be happy, she announced she was going to have a bath and spent the time in it soaking and crying.  Her plan to dedicate the evening to trying to contact him had been ruined.
