    Fisting the Bishop - Sabrina

Fisting the Bishop – Book 4

    By Sabrina

    Chapter 1

Bernie and Ronnie were stacking the last few chairs as John cleared away the uneaten food and the empty mugs, ‘do you know it’s almost ten thirty?’

Bernie and Ronnie put down the chairs they were moving and looked at their watches as if in disbelief, Ronnie gave a small chuckle, ‘that has gone fast, you’re telling me we’ve been here almost three hours’.

As the last few chairs were put away, Ronnie and Bernie propped themselves against a massive old-style radiator that seemed to provide a feature in the church meeting room as they waited for John to return.  As he did Bernie said, ‘do you need any help washing those up?’

John smiled, ‘thanks Bernie but Ronnie and I’ll do it in a moment or two, I just wanted a quick debrief session about the meeting’.

Both of the men laughed, and John threw up his hands, ‘I mean a debrief about how the meeting went and not, well you know’.

The two men let their childish laughter die out and Ronnie said as he looked at Bernie, ‘I thought he was wanting his pants pulled down then’.

John couldn’t help but let a smile escape, ‘I am going to remain professional’.

Bernie rubbed his face, ‘sorry Father John, we will behave I promise, please go on’.

‘There were twenty-five people here tonight, if you exclude us three, can you believe that, in just over a couple of months we have gone from seven to this many’.

Ronnie jumped into the conversation, ‘and you do know that another three couldn’t make it tonight, you know the ones that have been coming for the last few weeks, they told us that last week’.

John acknowledged him and continued, ‘so basically we are looking at about thirty or even more next week’.

Bernie smiled, ‘we’re gonna need a bigger boat’.

Father John and Ronnie looked at him, and he shrugged his shoulders, ‘oh come on, Jaws, the film, we’re gonna need a bigger boat, police Chief Brody’.

Ronnie laughed, ‘we’re only messing with you, of course we remember the line’.

John finished smiling, ‘you might be right, I thought we would get maybe ten or so, but this is amazing’.

Bernie looked sad for a second, ‘not really, have you noticed that we are getting a recuring theme here, it’s either, my family wouldn’t approve and will disown me if they know I’m gay and there was Stan, I think his name was’.

John looked away from the other two as he thought, ‘maybe we could do with a councillor or something like that.  The guy seemed quite depressed’.

The other two men remembered the silence in the room when Stan began to talk, tears were falling from his eyes before he’d even started but they were surprised how well he’d held his words together as he spoke.

Stan was a man of seventy and had always known he was gay, he’d hid it from his family and because he felt it would be unfair to take a wife and then not love her as he knew he could never love a woman, he’d been lonely all his life, now that society was beginning to accept people for who they were and being gay was no longer illegal and almost celebrated now-a-days he felt he’d missed out.  His life had been lost to bigots whom he had to live amongst all his life.

As he’d finished speaking John had looked around and he saw a few wet eyes as they felt for Stan, and John wondered how many times that feeling was being played out around the country or even around the world, maybe still was in countries that continue to ban same sex relationships.  John had wanted to give comfort but had tried to console him with what few words he could find but he knew it was useless.  He’d looked up counselling techniques online after the first couple of meetings and had learned a little but never enough to deal with this sort of emotion.

Each of the three men were remembering that moment in their own minds and Ronnie broke the silence, ‘come on, it’s getting late, let’s do that washing up and go home.

All three pitched in and it was soon sorted, Bernie split from the party and said his goodnights as his route took him away from Ronnie and John’s. Their journey completed in silence and when the door was closed on Ronnie’s home John said, ‘I am going to get rid of my flat, there’s no sense in keeping it, I mean, I’ve been here for the past few weeks, it’s been ages since I spent a night there’.

Ronnie smiled, ‘are you sure, I know you wanted to keep it as a sort of pretence to the bishop and Father Martin that you were on your own’.

John sat down on the sofa and Ronnie sat by his side, taking hold of his hand, ‘I am sure, I admit I’m
