Geoff huffed and puffed, sighed and then ran back up the stairs, it seemed everyone else was always going in the opposite direction.  Sidestepping and apologising he made it to the street and looked across the road, he said out loud to none of the people around him, ‘where the hell am I supposed to go now?’

As he finished speaking, he wondered if people would think he was one of the crazies, but right now he didn’t care and to be fair no one was looking at him.  He knew he had to get into central Manhattan but every time he reached the subway platform the trains were going in the opposite direction to what he wanted.

Looking up the street he noticed another set of stairs about twenty metres away, but he laughed in sarcasm as he noticed how it seemed to be camouflaged against the backdrop of buildings behind it.  Maybe this was some sort of New York test, if you don’t have twenty twenty vision then you can’t hack NYC.

He walked across the road, pleased for once that a taxi didn’t appear from nowhere again and try to move him into the afterlife, striding purposefully he reached the stairs and descended once again against the throng of humanity that had now decided to rise to street level.

He reached the platform and looked for the information display to see that the next train was indeed going the way he wanted but the time to arrival showed as ‘Delayed’.

Geoff sighed again; he had no choice to wait.
