Chapter 1

The pandemic had been brought to a halt with over half of the world's population vaccinated.

Victory!

Everyone heaved a sigh of relief, the darkness lay behind, the future was looking brighter.

The virus had been defeated… or so mankind believed.

But an organism as complex as the virus was not going to disappear as easily as that. Rather than die it had adapted and mutated, and it had manipulated the vaccine designed to destroy it... in the most frightening way.

Those who felt that they were immune were being slowly changed at a cellular level, the mutation gradually shut down every vital system sending their host into a deep coma-like state. Death came shortly after.

And then, like rebooting a computer, signs of life returned.

But not life as we know it, this was life straight from the pages of a horror novel, the impossible had happened, the first time since Lazarus, the dead had risen…

And the word Zombie suddenly shifted from fiction, to terrifying fact.
