Why is it that people are quick to say they're jealous of someone but will not admit to being envious?
What's the difference between shame and guilt?
Is feeling hopeless the same as feeling despair?
Emotions are a natural occurrence for humans. Having emotions separates us from other living things. Still, most people do not have the emotional language to name all the emotions experienced in a lifetime. This can leave us with unresolved and largely unhelpful emotions because we cannot recognize and learn from what is being felt. Unrecognized emotions can lead to mental, physical, and spiritual health issues. Once we learn to name emotions properly, we can also learn to use that emotions to move forward. Therefore, it is important to get to know ourselves and our emotions on the deepest levels. We can also share with others and build up more emotional language as we learn more about emotions.

Summary of Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown
Atlas of the Heart is all about emotions. Emotions are natural and organic, but most of us cannot necessarily name all the emotions we experience. Making things worse is that people are often encouraged not to openly discuss certain emotions because it is not considered appropriate or leaves the person vulnerable. Atlas of the Heart is about those emotions we can identify and those we feel but may not have the vocabulary to name. The book explains that our emotions are important and serve a greater purpose, but we must learn to name them to learn and grow from each one properly.
The actual text offers thirteen chapters, each of which begins with a list of emotions or related terms that are defined and explained within the chapter they head. Examples are given for those that are difficult to define and for those feelings that we consider emotions but are something different. The chapters are also named for the times when we are most likely to experience these feelings. As you read, you are likely to understand better many of the emotional reactions we have in life and how those can affect our
