Summary of The Gifts of Imperfection - Instaread Summaries

    Book Overview

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown describes what it is like to live a wholehearted life. When people live and love with their whole hearts, living wholeheartedly happens. Courage, compassion, and connection are needed in order for people to live wholehearted lives. They need courage to be vulnerable. They need compassion for themselves and for others. People who live wholehearted lives do not sacrifice who they are for the sake of what someone else thinks.

The second guidepost is cultivating self-compassion. It is necessary to let go of perfectionism in order to cultivate self-compassion. Perfectionism is unattainable. When people are compassionate and forgiving of themselves, they are practicing self-kindness.

The third guidepost is cultivating a resilient spirit. Resilient people have five characteristics in common. They use their
