About this ebook

For where two or three are gathered together as my followers, I am there among them--Matthew 18:20 Meet Kacee, Ahmani, Cierra and Londyn aka The Slumber Sisters. These four friends study the Word of God with one another and enjoy sleepovers and other fun activities. But their faith is often tested when they are forced to live out the Biblical principles they study and read about at church. Book 1 introduces Kacee Howard, who is driven into action once her mother faces a job layoff. Kacee decides to go on a fast and convinces her friends to fast and pray with her, seeking God to help her mother during this challenging time. But the girls will discover that fasting is more difficult than they realized. Will their growling stomachs override their faith?

This entire book series is dedicated to my childhood friends Christina Steel, Yolanda Carter-Ames, Alena Cook-Fields and Jennifer Washington. I will forever cherish us growing up together on Castleview Lane in the Briargate subdivision of Missouri City, Texas. We played Nintendo and all of the latest board games, and spent so many evenings and weekends outside riding our bicycles, roller skating or having sleepovers. Not to mention the early mornings standing outside and waiting to ride the yellow bus to Missouri City Middle School. Although tough family circumstances caused me to part ways with you guys once we reached high school, the memories have remained strong within my mind. I love you ladies 4 life!

"Furloughed, my twelve-year-old cousin Lamaya said in that tone of voice she uses when she feels like she knows something important. It means your mama was laid off from her job."

I was just about to raise another slice of cheese pizza to my mouth, but what she said caused me to stop with the pizza in mid-air like someone had suddenly pressed pause. My stomach felt like it was doing flip-flops, and the pizza wasn’t so delicious anymore. What was Lamaya talking about? My mom had just gotten the position with the Houston Health Center this past January, and we’d moved into our new apartment during my spring break vacation from school. Would we have to move back in with my grandmother, whom we affectionately called Nana?

When my mom got fired from her job at Walmart three years ago, we had to move in with Nana. And it was like that show Fuller House because Lamaya, her mom, and her brother and sister lived there too. After Walmart, my mom applied at a job staffing agency that gave her a lot of temporary job assignments. The health center was also a temp
