About the Author
Introduction
Are you tired of love not lasting, fair-weather friends and one-night stands?
It seems technology, and social media in particular, have skewed the natural flow that is required when forming strong connections with other people. The evidence of this is seen everywhere today, when you try to find friendships and relationships that last a significant amount of time, and that grow stronger over time. They have become quite rare.
We might not all be looking for love but none of us enjoy arguments, petty fights and wasting time on relationships that go nowhere. There are many relationship self-help books out there but what you’ll find in this one, are the universal truths that apply to every relationship and every type of person. Whether it’s teenage love, marriage, or just strong friendships you are looking for, this book holds the key to building healthier, longer lasting relationships.
It does not, however, have all the answers. I don’t have all the answers and no one else does either. But, due to my personal experience, countless conversations with couples and single guys and girls and the knowledge I have gained through Life Coaching service and Cognitive Behavioral studies, I have identified the areas that most commonly cause the biggest problems within relationships. So, though this book might not prepare you for all the relationship bumps and curve balls, it most definitely will give you a huge advantage upon entering a new relationship and will also give your existing relationships a better chance at going the distance, growing stronger and happier as you go.
You could be a young adult who has never seriously dated anyone but would love to, or an old couple who has been married for decades. You could be gay, bisexual, straight, transgender or any of the many other sexual orientations or of any gender. You could be a free-spirited single person who has no intention of dating anyone but value the friendships in your life. This book really is for everyone, since many of the topics that will be discussed aren’t exclusive to a specific group of people or type of relationship. They aren’t even exclusive to romance. If you are alive and human, you have relationships in your life.
The family that you couldn’t choose, the friends that you do choose, your lovers, your housemates, your colleagues and your boss. All these relationships require interaction and how you go about interacting could strengthen or weaken the bonds between you. Communication, the levels of connection, and the types of intimacy are all important aspects to be aware of and consider in any type of relationship but, of course, the relationship we tend to value the most is the romantic type. It holds a special kind of importance for most people. The entirety of this book is applicable to romantic relationships.
Here are some questions I hear all the time: Where do I go to meet potential boyfriends/girlfriends/life partners/new friends? I really like him/her but what if getting more intimate ruins our friendship? Sex has ruined our friendship; how do I fix it? He/she doesn’t feel the same way I do, what now? We’ve been dating for months/years but I don’t think we have much in common, should we split? Sorry to say, but this book will not answer any of those questions directly. I apologize if I got your hopes up for a moment there, but applying the knowledge you’ll gain from this book should give you a fairly good chance of never having to face those questions to begin with. And if you are faced with them, you might just find a way to navigate through them wisely and avoid them in the future.
Isn’t it ironic that in this modern age of computers, internet, and smartphones, communication is easier and more accessible than ever before in the history of mankind and yet relationships, especially romantic ones, are more difficult to establish and maintain than ever before? Technology has brought new challenges and threats into relationships but like anything, you can use this power for good. Maybe another book should follow
