Spiritual Self Care for Black Women - B. TRUE
Chapter 1 WHAT IS SPIRITUALITY?
Spirituality is a limitless dimension of human experience.
As such, it is difficult to explain and study with traditional methods. It has no rigid structures or dogmas, but rather values, daily practices and a particular approach to life.
Spiritual growth is more important than health, education, social status, because a spiritually empty person does not know who she is, why she exists.
What is spirituality? It has no ideal and final definition; it cannot be described as any object. Sociologists define spirituality as the search for the sacred
, where this sacred
in a broad sense is defined as different from the ordinary, everyday, it is worthy of respect. It can be defined in various ways: belief in certain forces that control the Universe, a sense of interconnection with all living beings, awareness of the purpose and meaning of life, improvement of personal qualities, tranquility. That in which each person finds meaning, hope, inner peace for her life.
What is spirituality? In different hertorical periods it has been interpreted differently. Very often it was associated with religious life, but it is not determined by religion and should not be linked to it. In modern times, the concept of spirituality
is often associated with humanistic psychology, combined with mystical and esoteric traditions, Eastern religious and philosophical teachings aimed at developing a person into a single holistic system, characterized by compassion, altruism, altruism, a rich inner world.
What is spirituality in human life? To fully enjoy life, all expressions of our essence must be balanced. Mind, soul, body should be in harmony with each othis. In theory, a person cannot focus solely on material things and neglect spiritual things. Walking through beautiful landscapes, listening to a brilliant musical work, admiring a beautifully painted picture, reading a talented book, he is fascinated, amazed, enjoying - all this affects her soul. there are many wonderful ways that manifest a person's spirituality, but which cannot be studied using scientific methods, as it includes deeply personal subjective experiences. Its essence lies in the search for your I
, which helps to discover the true nature of consciousness. Unable to explain her essence, a person identifies with her thoughts, feelings, memories.
A person's spiritual growth plays an important role, although the opinions of different people about her understanding will differ depending on experience, beliefs and personal characteristics. But in general, it can be described as the result of a focused attention on one's inner life, gaining self-confidence and a change in the perception of the world around him when a person comes to realize that serving people is a priority. When she comes to understand her true nature, she is freed from many fears and discovers an inner world that is independent of the circumstances in the world around her. He becomes less self-centered, needs less approval or recognition, does not focus on material matters, does not seek a high social position. A truly developed spiritual life can offer many benefits, both emotional and physical. Become happier, healthier, more loving, understanding.
What is spirituality in a religious context? It is the basis of the major religions of the world and some humanistic ideologies. Hence, in India, spiritual experience is taught through yoga. Many people perceive it as certain physical poses, which are actually only one of its components. Yoga is divided into four types or modes of spiritual experience associated with the four basic instincts of man. Control the mind, introspection, the ability to abstract from feelings and focus on the source of one's thoughts. Love and devotion in a relationship, understanding that love is the ultimate truth at the very heart of creation. Performing actions without any selfish motivation. The fourth way to understand spirituality is through the mind, understanding how the laws of nature work, as they are the mind of the universe.
The essence of spirituality
Spirituality is the ability of a person to understand herself, that is, the ability to find the answers to the questions: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going? What bonds and what values give me the possibility to reach the meaning of my life?
Everything that has to do with the spirit can be considered spirituality, everything that belongs to a path of growth and inner research.
It is a way of being that detaches itself from materiality towards a deeper level of existence and that brings harmony and balance between body, mind and spirit.
What does it mean to be a spiritual person?
Being a spiritual person means having love for yourself and for others as a priority.
Religion offers a system of spiritual guidance that is valid for many. In religion we tend to be guided by someone and have written rules to follow. It is a structured organization carried out within the community.
Spirituality is mostly lived as a personal and interior experience, without rules and without dogmas. Unlike many religions, mistakes are not punished, but accepted and considered fundamental for growth. We don't have to mull over the past and condemn ourselves for our bad choices, but live in the present and implement the lessons learned.
Spirituality is a key element of every religion and in turn takes the key elements of every religion. Recognize the truth of the message of the various religions regardless of the prophet.
Spirituality is a broad concept with room for many perspectives. Generally, it includes a sense of connection with something greater than ourselves and typically involves a search for meaning in life. As such, it is a universal human experience, something that touches us all. People may describe a spiritual experience as sacred or transcendent or simply a deep sense of vitality and interconnectedness.
Some may find that their spiritual life is closely linked to their association with a church, temple, mosque, or synagogue. Others may pray or find comfort in a personal relationship with God or in a higher power. Still others seek meaning through their connections with nature or art. Like your sense of purpose, your personal definition of spirituality can change throughout your life, adapting to your experiences and relationships.
Spiritual questions
For many, spirituality is linked to big questions about life and identity, such as:
✓ Am I a good person?
✓ What is the meaning of my suffering?
✓ What is my connection with the world around me?
✓ Do things happen for a reason?
✓ How can I live my life in the best possible way?
While spirituality may incorporate elements of religion, it is generally a broader concept. Religion and spirituality are not the same, nor are they completely distinct from each othis.
Spirituality versus emotional health
You will notice as you read that many practices recommended for cultivating spirituality are similar to those recommended for improving emotional well-being. This is because there is a connection between the two: emotional and spiritual well-being influence each other and overlap, as do all aspects of well-being.
Spirituality is about seeking a meaningful connection with something greater than yourself, which can cause positive emotions, such as peace, awe, contentment, gratitude, and acceptance.
Emotional health is about cultivating a positive frame of mind, which can broaden your vision to recognize and incorporate a connection with something greater than you.
Therefore, emotions and spirituality are distinct but connected, deeply integrated with each othis.
Spirituality comes from spirit. Spirituality is cultivating what belongs to the spirit, that is, its ability to plan unifying visions, to relate everything to everything, to connect and re- connect all things with each other and with the Source of origin.
If the Spirit is relationship and life, its opposite is neithis matter nor body, but death as the absence of relationship. In this sense, spirituality is any attitude or activity that favors the expansion of life, conscious relationship, open communion, profound subjectivity and transcendence as a way of being, always ready for new experiences and new knowledge.
Neurologists and brain scholars have identified the biological basis of spirituality. It is located in the frontal lobe of the brain. They have empirically verified that every time that the most global contexts are captured or a significant experience of totality occurs or when one approaches in an existential form (not as an object of study) the ultimate realities charged with meaning and which produce attitudes of veneration, of devotion and of respect, there is an acceleration of the vibrations in hertz of the neurons located at that point. They called this phenomenon the God Point
in the brain or the emergence of the mystical mind
(Zohar, QS: Inteligência Espiritual, 2004).
Four approaches to spirituality, all equally valid and worth exploring, and a definition of spirituality capable of summarizing all possible interpretations.
Everyone has a personal sense of what to him is spiritual or not. For most people, what goes beyond the physical aspect of reality is considered spiritual.
Consequently, spirituality could be:
✓ That part of life that turns to the search for the essence of things.
✓ That part of existence that goes beyond what is earthly.
I wrote could because in reality by thoroughly investigating the meaning of the word spirituality, nuances of meanings emerge that deserve to be fully understood. Here's what they are.
Spirituality as the highest level of any evolutionary line
The concept of evolutionary lines can be easily understood by referring to the principle of multiple intelligences. It is now universally recognized that every human being has different types of intelligence: logical, mathematical, artistic, musical, etc. Human development can therefore be represented as the unfolding of several evolutionary lines, each with its own relatively independent development. In each evolutionary line it is possible to identify
