Introduction
My name is Nancy and I’m at a crossroads in my life,
There’s a lot on my mind and I have to share my story.
I’m at a place where I have to decide certain things with my life,
Whether I’m settling down, getting married and having children.
There’s also the road of dating, living my best life and focusing on my career,
While trying to change the world and having an impact on others.
There’s the opportunity to travel the world and experience many cultures,
The thought of doing that with my best friends would be amazing.
I know what you’re thinking, why can’t you have it all?
The reality is, we really can’t have it all and I’ll explain why.
For me, I am all in and dedicated to what I’m immersed in,
I have to give it 100% in all facets and that’s my mindset.
Getting married and having children, I’d be dedicated to that,
My career would have to take a backseat and that’s what I’d be doing.
If I decide to go down the path of career and impacting others,
Then I’d be sacrificing having a marriage and children.
So come with me on my journey and get inside of my mind,
This will surely be a good story to tell and one that will get you thinking, I promise.
Expectations
I come from a big family of predominantly women,
We’re very cultured and there’s so many expectations.
The expectations to get married and have a family,
It also has to be by a certain age or we’re considered a failure.
It’s the social stigmas of living in a cultured society,
Where women are put under pressure to have children to keep the world going.
With three sisters who are already married with kids,
My parents are constantly having conversations with me about settling down.
I always dodge or evade the discussion because I’m still in limbo,
On whether I’m going down the road of getting married and having kids.
It has nothing to do with the dating scene and my values on marriage,
Nor does it have to do with kids because I love them, especially my nieces and nephews.
I’m the cool aunt who takes them places and does amazing things with them,
Which is probably why my family sees me as a mother since I’m so nurturing and loving.
I am one of the last women in my family to not be married and with kids,
It was down to my cousin and I but now she’s married and expecting a child in a few months.
There’s still
