About this ebook

DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA

Alexis de Tocqueville (French, 1805-1859), was the DIFFUSER OF THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE in Europe, highlighting EQUAL AND LEGAL OPPORTUNITIES, based on POLITICAL DECENTRALIZATION: federal autonomy, democracy in everyday life, ACCESS TO LAND. This is due to the lack of neighbors who can become competitors, the egalitarian culture of immigrants, federal organization, freedom of the press and religion, being important the separation of church and state.
De Tocqueville highlighted the good of a high political participation regulated by the constitution. The TOWN HALL is the sphere of participation and common good. Sarmiento will take many of these ideas.
American independence (1776) had the following development: the 13 colonies were able to procure their own system of government and laws, highlighting the EQUAL CHARACTER OF THE PROCESS. The constitution took on the THEORY OF THE THREE POWERS from Montesquieu, limiting the powers of the executive with a bicameral legislative power.
Rousseau's democratic theories influenced what refers to an egalitarian "state of nature", which the state had to preserve by avoiding extremes of wealth and poverty, and abuse of authority.

Rousseau's democratic theories influenced what refers to an egalitarian state of nature, which the state had to preserve by avoiding extremes of wealth and poverty, and abuse of authority.

The predominant model in the new American states was that of INDEPENDENT SMALL FARMERS owning their lands (avoiding the formation of large estates) with a commercial export nucleus, later industrial, that almost a century later triumphantly faced the slave model that was established. it was generating in the southern states.

It was the economic factor that completed the initial paradigm of this society, made up of Protestant and Anglo-Saxon whites, imbued with the capitalist spirit, with
