About this ebook

We often think of procrastination or struggles to be productive as a time management problem, or the result of a lack of discipline. In reality, procrastination is an emotional problem, related to how we feel about doing a task. Sometimes, there’s a mismatch between our goals and how we feel about a task, and our productivity may suffer as a result. What is to be done?
In Setting Out for Success, PhD and coach Marie Gervais outlines her perspective on procrastination and what you can do to make your work more effective and less timing. Gervais explains the “four types of procrastinators,” why each type exists, and what to do about each; different behaviors of procrastination and their associated remedies; the “Chunk, Block, and Tackle” technique for organizing and maximizing productivity; and how to build a wake-up routine that will help you start off your day on the right foot. She also shares exercises so you can apply what you’ve learned right away.
We all fall prey to procrastination sometimes — it’s only human. With Setting Out for Success, you can identify effective ways to manage the procrastination impulse when you feel it taking hold.

    Introduction

Hello and welcome to Setting Out for Success: Tools for Managing Procrastination and Boosting Productivity, a course from Scribd Coach. I’m Marie Gervais. Let’s get started!

Here’s a question for you to consider: Why do people procrastinate? Do you think it’s a time management problem or a lack of discipline? That’s a common understanding of procrastination — but in reality, it’s not a time management problem. Surprise!

Procrastination is actually an emotional problem. It has to do with how we feel about doing a task. And how you feel about doing a task can undermine any of the logical planning you’ve done independently of how you feel. Until you can harmonize your goals with how you feel about a task, you’re going to be dealing with procrastination.

That being said, there is something you can do to manage procrastination when it sneaks in. The goal of this course is to help you learn how to do just that — and more. The tools and techniques I share in this
