The Subsist - Ahmed Musthafa
Prologue
Liam Anderson was walking slowly on the road and his hazel brown eyes glanced at the old mansion. The breeze of the cold brisk wind afternoon made his hat fall off his dome, he shook down to grab it and he felt a spray due to the water droplets pouring down into his long snout. He looked up and felt the tickling of gentle drops continuously shower over him, Liam quickly dashed into the car for the umbrella.
He sneaked into his car, while doing so he got wet from the backside. He struggled to open the umbrella, hasty as he could to avoid himself getting wet. Then he stepped forward to the mansion.
Liam slowly took his gun from the back of his long coat and loaded up. He went closer to the entrance of the mansion and he gently pushed the gate. The gate was rusted and deteriorated that it seemed the place was concealed for almost centuries. He felt some cold shivers and had a weird feeling about the mansion. Before even taking one more step in. His senses could feel something.
Standing at the corner he felt weird looking at a long guy with curvy face having a minimum light beard, it was the broken mirror down he saw. He then feared to go further and stopped there down the side roof.
He closed the umbrella and slipped a cigar out of his pocket and lighted it. He kept the cigar between his medium thick lips and started to smoke, and he left his umbrella there and stepped forward.
There was complete silence all around, the wind breezing sound could be heard without any efforts. Suddenly Liam got scared hearing the thunder strike. He stilled his smoking for a while and was feeling strange about the place, after a while he squished the cigar with his long boot and kick tossed it.
Meanwhile he stepped forward, pointing out his handgun and took the position. To his sudden someone caught him from behind. He imagined how could someone grab him from the back as he was seriously sure about no one was there behind him, while he proceeded.
He felt so pushed and he was fighting back to turn around, after struggling so long he still couldn’t see who was behind and misfired the shot here and there. Also the wind made all the dry leaves go haywire.
I am a police officer, leave me
Liam yelled (angrily).
That person left him on the ground.
Sure you are, Sir, Apology
old man said.
Liam got up and gazed at him, he was an old man with a lot of beard
You are the one?
Liam asked and the old man nodded his head
Why did you call me?
Liam asked. Here
I am Raphael and I am a Psychiatrist, You are new to this place and I need to tell you something I know is important to know, you need to listen
said Old man.
What is it all about?
Liam asked.
Raphael asked him to get in.
Raphael made him sit on the couch and then offered him the tea. Liam took the sip of his tea, after a while Are you married?
Raphael asked.
Yes
Liam said.
Families are the weakest asset, need to save
Raphael said.
Liam took another cigar out and lighted up.
What about your family?
Liam asked.
I lost them recently, my wife, my Son and my daughter, in an apocalypse
said Raphael.
What kind of apocalypse are you talking about?
asked Liam.
I am going to tell you a story
Raphael said.
Liam stood up You called me here all the way to tell a bullshit story?
asked Liam.
It’s not a bullshit
Raphael said. It’s now our future
Liam still couldn’t trust Raphael and walked around gazing at him.
Okay, you are telling me a story
Liam asked. About what?
Raphael asks him to sit on the couch and listen to him.
Liam throws his cigar on the ashtray and relaxed himself on the couch.
Before I begin, I really want a commitment from you
Raphael said.
Commitment for what?
Liam asked.
That you won’t walk away before I end
Raphael said.
I don’t know why, but you seem to be a lot serious
Liam said. Yeah, commitment
Liam looks at his watch to see the time, it was 3.
It all started with a case and It’s all about
Raphael said.
Chapter 1
The beginning
I t’s all about the Senior Sergeant Peter White of New York Police Department. He was working under a special group ERF called the Extreme Research Facility. This group solves special cases in the office and have extremely brilliant team. He was on a regular routine with his work of crime investigation. Peter had a long face, fair with less of cheeks and his eyes resembled the blue color of the sea. His eyebrows were slightly curved and shaped well. He had medium nose not too small and not too long even. He has flat lips and was having a neatly trimmed beard.
He liked his work as he loved investigating. His ambition in life was to become an army officer but he didn’t actually worked hard on it and later on, he lost interest.
Peter as usual on every weekend visited the church in his locality with his Uncle and Aunt. In less than 10 minutes, Peter walked out of the church. He was thinking about the case of a murdered woman, the last night.
He made a phone call to Sam, who was his best friend and a co-worker. Sam is cool and thinks all around. He creates a good atmosphere to work around. He is tall, fair and is of good height.
Sam after a long time answered the call Hey, buddy
I was thinking about the murder last night, did you find any lead?
Peter asked.
I didn’t get much of an evidence as such, but I found out that she was working for the Pizzas, I identified with her id which Mel provided
Sam replied. Shall I ask Mel to help out?
No not Mel, Sorry
Peter said. And how is your family?
(There was sound of baby crying out loud)
Sorry for the baby, they are good, she is crying a lot
Sam said.
I really needed you for the case but it’s okay, not every time new baby is born and it’s your first child you deserve to enjoy every moment of it
Peter said. Anyways I have just called you up to say um sorry, I had made you work on your leave
Sam smiled Oh Peter, I also wanted to work on this case, after such a long time we have got an interesting case, I will join you soon by this week, we will kick some ass together
Sam said.
Take your time buddy
Peter said and disconnects the call.
Mel is a beautiful and intelligent co-worker. She thinks a lot logical and can solve many things quick. Her dynamics are not good with Peter. Mel calls Sam.
How is Peter?
asked Mel.
No difference, he is all same
Sam replied.
Jake sir have informed me about the case, I don’t know how to speak with Peter
Mel replied. It’s totally out of my comfort zone
.
Everything will be all right
Sam replied.
I know he will understand sometime, it’s the hope
Mel said. Anyways let’s talk later
. Mel
Yeah bye
Sam said.
Mel was upset after the conversation.
Peter after a while received a call from Deputy Commissioner Jake Hill Peter, go immediately to the 7th street, without asking any questions
.
Whoa, What happened sir?
asked Peter
You need to go there first, meet me after that
Jake replied.
Peter rushed into the church and told them about his emergency and left off with his car.
Peter was driving off to the 7th street thinking about Jake sir’s emergency. His questions had no answer until he actually reached there. He was driving way faster than his normal usual speed, he broke off two traffic signals and he finally stopped at the third signal, thinking what other people would influence. He looked out of his window waiting.
An old woman from behind sneaked honking out of her window.
Hey, I’ve been watching you, you broke the last signal, are you out of your mind?
The old woman yelled. You may end up dying
I am sorry, kind of work pressure
Peter smiled and answered.
You think we don’t have any work here, just driving for fun
She said. What work are you doing?
Peter smiled.
I am a Police officer mam, Follow traffic rules
She nodded abruptly and closed her window.
At least I stopped for the signal
Peter said to no one in particular.
The signal was on and Peter took straight road to his destination.
He reached there and saw many police officers and people crowding over to something.
Peter rushed there to see the dead body, he told the officers to get aside and went close to the body and looked. It was a dead body of a man which was torn and he noticed some foray of attacks.
This is Senior Sergeant Peter White, I need this body totally untouched, also call up the forensic investigators to work on them, Quick
Peter ordered.
Yes Sir, they are on their way
One of the police officers replied.
Please stay away, don’t get close
Peter said to the people around. He then looked over the body and then clicked a picture.
Peter reached the ERF office to meet Jake. He was busy with his computer, while hearing the knock at the door, he swayed his look towards him and nodded.
Get in
Peter got in and sat on the chair. He then looked up at Jake.
I sense some big trouble sir, isn’t it?
Peter asked.
Yes, you are the only one for the mission right now, just to investigate and report. Your partner Sam would join you later and also my trained friend
Jake said.
Trained! What’s so serious?
Peter asked.
The murder last night and the murder that happened today is connected, by every means
Jake said.
How?
Peter asked.
We examined both the bodies, I did a personal research, and we were there before you
Jake said. Their nerves
(Jake looked stressed)
What about the nerves?
Peter asked.
It has some engraved initials so deep within their pale blue shade of blood, that is clearly visible, the word Zoop, I could read, is penned on their wrists as it was some infection
Jake said.
Zoop
Peter exclaimed.
It has no meaning in our dictionary, although our research team said that it meant quick in some old languages but nothing in standard
Jake replied.
What are they?
asked Peter.
Jake silenced himself for a while It’s something not normal I believe, it’s something else
.
Else?
Peter questioned.
Maybe something possessed him, and was dead at that time
Jake said.
Are you trying to tell me, it’s a ghost?
Peter asked.
I personally don’t believe in Ghosts but I choose to believe it, any assassin cannot engrave them, as the forensics say. It must be some inevitable disease or the ghost
Jake said and stopped. Then both of them remained silent for some time thinking and later Jake looked at
