About this ebook

The value of anything is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and He paid for our diseases and sicknesses at the whipping post.

Many Christians have been taught to change the word of God to match their experiences instead of believing God will change their experiences to match His word.

    Preface

Was Jesus a Word of Faith teacher? I want the reader to examine that question and decide for him or herself if He was.

My goal is to reach as many people as possible, especially those outside the Word of Faith belief system, to encourage them to appreciate Word of Faith teachings based on scripture.

Personally, I can’t think of a better message to propagate during these troublesome times, or for that matter any time.

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart that is: the Word of Faith, which we preach. Romans 10:8 (KJV)

    God bless,

Thank you for opening my eyes and understanding of many biblical passages. But most of all, I want to thank my Lord Jesus Christ and God’s indwelling Spirit, it is through Christ Jesus and Him alone that every blessing of God is made available to us today. Thank you Lord Jesus.

In the end, may God alone have all the glory, honor and praise!

Was Jesus a Word of Faith Teacher?

    By D.J. Tunnell

An honest look at what some call The Health & Wealth Gospel.

You are invited to take your seat at the table as the author breaks the bread of life that feeds hungry soul and spirit, that brings life and vitality to a church world that seems so steeped in traditions that is has become blind to the simple faith building message Jesus presented.

The author believes that whatever Jesus said is true, and is just as relevant for us today as it was for those who first heard it.

    A letter to the Reader

    Dear Reader,

Thank you for choosing to spend some of your time considering my thoughts on faith. If the truth was told, you may be further developed in faith than I am. In fact, I hope you are! Praise God! If that were the case, then I’m trying to catch up with you! I’m still hungry for faith! God is still a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

I am so glad that you decided to embark on this journey of faith with me. It is my privilege to share some of the things I have learned about faith with you. All the glory, honor and praise go to God alone.

Many times in the Bible, Jesus would perform a miracle and then say, Tell no one about this miracle. No one really knows the reason why He told His disciples to be quiet about it. But, I do know any time we speak about the supernatural there will be persecution.

Though Jesus performed many miracles, many still would not believe. That’s true today. It is not the miracles that caused people to believe. First people need to believe, and do that by faith, and then they are in a position to receive a miracle.

The same thing is true today that was true in Jesus’ days on earth. Those who believed were put out of the synagogue. Many in the church world in Jesus’ day, and our day, love the praise of men more than the praise of God.

The purpose of this book is not to just teach us about faith. I have included some places you can go and increase your faith. These resources are available to all. This book is just a starter. Your own motivation should carry you far beyond its pages.

The old illustration is still true. It is better to teach a person how to fish, rather than just giving him a fish. A fish is a meal, but knowing how to fish has a lifetime benefit.

Those who develop their faith far beyond these pages will receive many benefits now and into eternity.

In some modern day churches, if you say the things about God that the Bible says about Him, and try to apply it to our era of time, you may be silenced or asked to leave, or be dis-fellowshipped. Many are led not by faith, but by fear. Fear is really the opposite of faith. Actual faith is precious and it is rare. Jesus went so far as to ask the question when the Son of Man returns will He find faith on the earth?

Unfortunately, if you asked many Christians what is your faith? the correct answer would be ‘none’. It doesn’t have to be that way. In regard to faith many have been ‘religiously brain-washed’ and not ‘New Testament taught’. Many modern day sermons should come with this warning: ‘Caution this sermon may be hazardous to your faith!’

Don’t ever pat a preacher on the back and say ‘what a great preacher you are!’ when his message clearly destroys biblical faith. He may have preached ‘church doctrine’ well, and managed to keep his job, his salary and his devoted followers. He may have avoided persecution. Men will not persecute those who believe as they do. Some believe that only the natural world is reality, anything supernatural does not exist in our modern world. Some preachers are right in step with unbelievers.

Let’s change that. The truth is you can choose to believe, just as some have chosen unbelief. It is a choice. You can say I believe that. I choose to believe it by faith. And God will honor your choice! He knows you don’t understand it, and that you can’t figure it out with your natural or rational mind. He knows that it may defy modern science, that you can’t put it into a test tube, or under a microscope and examine it.

Faith is not of the natural world. In fact, if you understood it with your intellect, it wouldn’t be faith. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) God set it up that way. Without actual faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

Are you ready to embark on a journey of faith? Good! Let’s get started.

    A Prayer of Faith

Father, as we read Your Word we learn this about You.

    Your essential nature never changes.

Your Word declares: I am the Lord, I change not. Malachi 3:6 (KJV)

We read that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)

And with You, Father, there is no variableness, nor shadow of turning. James 1:17 (KJV)

How thankful we are Father, that You have not stopped being Who You are.

You are still Jehovah…the self-existent One Who reveals Himself.

You are still Jehovah’Shammah…You are present…You are there…

Father, we think about Jesus promise Lo, I am with you always.

Moses said to You in essence If Your presence is not with me, I’m not going. Exodus 33:15 (KJV)

You are still Jehovah-Shalom You are our peace.

You are still Jehovah-Ra-Ah You are our Shepherd.

You are still Jehovah-Jireh The Lord that provides.

You are still Jehovah-Nissi The Lord our banner…our Victor, our Captain

You are still Jehovah-Tsidkenu The Lord our righteousness.

And Father, I am so thankful that You remain Jehovah-Rapha, The Lord who is our Physician. The Lord that heals us.

Father, man-made religion has tried to strip You of some of the things the Bible says you are.

I am thankful that You will always remain. You will always be Who the Bible says you are…none of these things about You will ever pass away.

We pray these things in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, Our Healer, our Redeemer, Our Savior. Amen
