    As it is written… for such a time as this, using God’s Word from the Scriptures to encourage and guide us in praying for our nation and our leaders. Week 1:

    Nothing is too hard or impossible for God, words to that effect are written in Genesis 18:14; Jeremiah 32:17 and 27; Matthew 17:20-21; Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27; Luke 1:37; Luke 18:27

    2 Chronicles 7:14-16 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

    Jeremiah 29:11-14 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the

    LORD

    , plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the

    Philippians 1:3-8 I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

    Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.     May the Lord (Himself) bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face to you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)

    And a prayer to share: Almighty God, how good it is to know that with You all things are possible, if it is in Your will. It is written many times in Your Word that nothing is impossible or too hard for You. We come to You to pray for our nation and our leaders. And You come to speak to us, Your people, who are called by Your name, to humble ourselves and seek Your face—You who are good, all the time, all the time You are good—and as we pray, to repent and turn away from our wicked ways—and thoughts— so that then You will hear from heaven and will forgive our sins and will heal our land, that Your eyes will be open and Your ears attentive to our prayers. As in every area of our lives, we need Your help, Lord, to give us recognition of our sins and hearts desiring to repent so that as we pray for our country and its leaders You will be attentive to our prayers. And we most humbly ask that You guide our every word as we follow Your Word so that our prayers might bless and please you and be in accordance with Your will and Your way. Please, through our prayers, will You bless our leaders, and our whole nation with them, with Godly wisdom and clarity of thought, heavenly guidance, powerful protection and hearts and minds to hear and follow where You lead. Thank You for providing all we need to be able to do that, in Your written Word. Thank You also for Your assurance that You have good plans for us, plans to give us hope and a future and that when we call to You in prayer, You will listen. And further that when we seek You with all our hearts, we will find You—You will be found by us. We find joy in what Your Word says about the confidence we can have that You who begins a good work in us will carry it on to completion. Please, almighty God, begin a new good work in this country and in all our leaders, both present and future. May we all strive to always show Your gentleness to all, while at the same time experiencing the power of Your nearness, as, with thanksgiving, we present our petitions to You. We ask for Your peace to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as we think and ponder on whatever is noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy. We are Your sheep—help us to listen to Your voice and follow You to Your purpose and glory. Help us all to be ever loving and faithful, trusting in You with all our hearts, submitting to You in all our ways as You make our paths straight. Your Word, O Lord, is right and true, You are faithful in all You do. The world is full of Your unfailing love. Please give us truly grateful hearts for Who You are—our heavenly Father, Son Jesus our risen Lord and Savior, and Holy Spirit; all authority in heaven and on earth is Yours. Let all the earth fear You and revere You. In the beginning You spoke, and it came to be; You commanded and it stood firm. You foil the plans of the nations and thwart the purposes of the people. But Your plans stand firm forever, the purposes of Your heart through all generations. All thanks and praise be to You, Holy God. In Jesus’ name. Amen

    Isaiah 55:6-13 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.

    Isaiah 58:6-14 Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings. If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob." For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

    Daniel 9:17-19 Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.

    Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

    Jeremiah 7:23 but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.

    1 Peter 3:8-17 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.

    Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

    Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

    May these His Words bless you and —

    May the Lord (Himself) bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face to you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)

    And a prayer to share: Our Father Who art in heaven, we, the people of Your pasture, gather once again to pray for our nation and leaders. We pray as well for ourselves that as we pray Your Word, You might be blessed and pleased—even that You might find heavenly joy in our offering of prayer. Will You please bless us as we seek You and call on You, believing that You are always near—that You are actually always with us, when we concentrate on knowing Your Presence. Please bring to our conscious thought any wicked ways or unrighteous thoughts that we may be harboring so that we may confess them and repent of them as we ask for your mercy and pardon. Thank You, Lord, that there is so much You have freely given us to know; there is also so much that is a mystery to us and that we will not have answers for until we meet you in eternity. Your thoughts and ways are so much higher, wiser, more powerful—more everything, more heavenly than ours as earthbound mere mortals. Thankfully, You give us both Your Living Word, Jesus, and Your written Word, the Holy Scriptures. You explain to us that Your Word does not return to You empty, but achieves both what you desire and the purpose for which You sent it. Thank You for that blessed assurance! And thank You for the hope that You give us that we may go out in joy and peace. I hope that some day I might hear the mountains and hills burst into song and see the trees of the field clapping their hands—and—may it all be for Your renown, an everlasting sign that will endure forever to lose the chains of injustice and untie the cords that yoke us to anyone or anything but You so that Your righteousness will go before us and Your glory will be our rear guard. We pray for our country and both our present and future leaders that You will strengthen us all to do away with the yoke of oppression, the pointing finger and malicious talk and turn instead to spend ourselves in behalf of the needy and satisfying the needs of the oppressed, then You will answer Here I am when we call for help. Your Light will rise and shine, and You will guide us always and strengthen us. May You also strengthen us to keep the Sabbath holy that we may be like well watered gardens, like springs who never fail with streams of living water that will satisfy our thirst and wash us clean. Would You then use all of us as rebuilders of what is ruined and to raise up the age-old Foundation, the Rock of Ages, the Lord Jesus Christ, to repair the broken walls and restore our dwellings? For Your sake, Lord, look with favor on the USA. See the desolation that this nation has become, the nation that was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and beliefs. We do not pray because of any righteousness on our part, but rather because of Your great mercy. Lord, please listen! Lord, please forgive! Lord, please hear and act. For Your sake, our God, do not delay, because this land and its people once bore Your name. Thank You for this Prayer of Daniel—Your Word is indeed a lamp for our feet, a light on our path. Please, our Abba Father, plant and water in us a spirit of obedience so that we might walk in obedience to all You command us—we desire that it would please You to be our God and to call us Your people who you call to be like-minded, sympathetic, loving toward one another, compassionate and humble. May we be mindful to not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, to keep our tongues from evil and our lips from deceitful speech, to turn from evil and do good, to seek peace and pursue it. For it is written that Your eyes are on the righteous and Your ears attentive to their prayers. We seek always to be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope we have and to do it with gentleness and respect and always with Your truth. We acknowledge that Your Word is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword and that nothing in all creation is hidden from Your sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before Your eyes. Praise be to God. In Jesus’ name. Amen

    Isaiah 41:13 For I am the
