INTRODUCTION TO FLAB
Most people want to have their cake and eat it, too. To me, this is a no-brainer because I do want cake and want to eat it, too. The conundrum is that I have a strong desire for abs and a healthy vessel. I want hard abs that exhibit ripples when I wear tight-fitted shirts. I want people to witness my hard work in the gym and self-discipline in the kitchen. Well, maybe there’s a little more to it—I want other people to admire my cuts and to view me as some kind of demigod! That might be a bit much, but I am sure you understand my thought process. It is hard to have the hard physique and abs when you lust after food constantly throughout the day. My lust led me to eat donuts, honey buns, cakes, and anything sweet that piqued my interest. I had a love affair with sugar; I would salivate whenever my wife removed cakes or cupcakes from our oven. I am still a glutton for carbohydrates (carbs) and breads, which can produce flab and hide abs.
Over the years, I fell in love with Club crackers, brownies, and Nothing Bundt cakes. I lived for food, and I still love food. I have a radical acceptance of that pleasant truth. Food is a part of life, and we should not fear food, even the sugary, processed, and bad carbs. However, food should not control our lives or serve as our motivator to live. Food started to control me, and there were many nights when I wondered off, dreaming about what I would eat the next day. I envisioned purchasing a Chick-fil-a sandwich and spreading honey mustard sauce on my bun. I would wake up with a slight smile just to imagine how I would devour it and shoot the wrapper in the trashcan like winning the NBA finals. It was an absolute love fest. I thought about how I would wash down the taste of my sandwich and waffle fries with a chilled Dr. Pepper. My parents warned me constantly, James, you reap what you sow.
And I did. I sowed a lot of surgery and fatty seeds
