Chapter 1; That bitch

That bitch

My neighbor Caroline, or whom I call Miss stick up her ass must have complained to our landlord about me again. That bitch. I hated her so much. I swear she complained about me every week.

It was getting old. Really old. Not just for me either. Today when I got home from work, I had a message on my door to call my landlord.

Shit I thought, that was not good. The fact that he had actually posted something on my door meant that the idea of leaving a voice message didn’t cut it. That spelled trouble in my mind.

Usually, he called my cell and if I wasn’t there, he would leave a message. Generally simple requests, such as your party last night was too loud, please don’t do it again or Caroline asks that you do not leave your clothes in the dryer overnight. But not this time. No, not this time for sure.

The note was short and to the point. Missy, please give me a call regarding Caroline. Rick. Oh boy. I hoped he hadn’t come all the way out here to talk to me, or even worse talk to her about me. Hopefully the note was just a spur of the moment thing. Rick didn’t live here; Caroline and I just shared a two-story building with individual apartments and a common washing machine and dryer. I had been here for just under six months and Caroline for probably ten years. She was around forty I bet. Single from what I could tell. Rick was older, I think he had had inherited this building from his parents or something.

With some trepidation I called him. He answered on the third ring.

Hello?

Hi Rick, it’s Missy. Pause.

Oh, Missy. Thank you for calling. How are you? We made small talk about how I was, how was the weather etc. When we ran out of the obvious things to say, it got uncomfortably quiet. He cleared his throat and
