The story

Chapter 1

I had been working for Claire for the past three months.  Working for her, the past three months, working with her longer.  Even worse, I was working for her in a business I used to own.  All things considered it was not entirely terrible, but this would never be the way I would have wanted it.

My business, or rather Claire’s now, is a real estate investment office. We bought and sold real estate and handled many of the transactions in house.  About five or six months back, there had been a mistake in the math of the transactions and I had accidently over charged clients by thousands of dollars.

In an effort to clean it up I had paid each client their money but had to borrow it to make it happen.  As part of that I had sold my business to Claire and had agreed to work for her, where she used to work for me.
