Chapter 1

I was at home working on my latest book when the phone rang. My wife, Beth, was out for the afternoon, and though most of the calls we get are for her, I picked up the receiver.

Hello, I said with a voice I wanted to sound as though I had just been disturbed.

Hi, it’s Dawn here.

Hi Dawn, how are you? Dawn is one of Beth’s close friends. They’ve known each other for over 20 years and don’t have many secrets between them.
