    My Masks

    Masks are different for everyone but everyone has one. Some choose them to hide from something they fear or dislike. People choose masks when it’s too painful to be ‘real’ or those around them do not deserve the ‘real’. Some people enjoy wearing masks and have many of them-it’s exciting and unpredictable but it’s easier to lose the ‘real’. People start using their masks at different ages. For some they are young and the mask helps them from painful situations that continually hurt them. Some are older and not used to the pain and rejection and have no coping methods-the mask becomes that for them. The others-who love the masks, they play mask so often it’s unclear when or why it started. My mask developed and improved with each heart break.

    That first time I was 17 years old. I had given my heart, my soul, my mind and my body to him. He was the first one to hold me in his arms, the first one to feel my skin on his, the first one to see, to hear, to know everything about me. Everything I was I had surrendered to him. I loved the way he held me, kissed me, talked to me, laughed with me,
