Towerld Level 0008: The Wheelchair Wizard of the Barrier-free Brigade
()
About this ebook
The expedition team has split into male and female squads. The male squad enters the barrier-free floor, and receives the reality check from the formidable foes that are classes above the previous adversaries. The Barrier-free Brigade complicates the issue even more, by initiating the public execution and the unveiling session of the new weapon.
A bunch of weirdoes named the Detachables, the Shock Sommelier, and Prop-Alla-Din are led by Towbie the Twisted, also known as the Wheelchair Wizard. If they are so full of detestation, what do they wage a war against?
Can Hector_1304 continue his journey to the upper floors, after surviving the seemingly impenetrable barrier-free floor? Who is going to drop out of the expedition? Do they need to make new allies to compensate for the loss? Is there any need for a bargaining chip to finalize the deal?
By the way, the female squad on the feminist floor may be in danger!

The Overall View of Towerld
Part One
---01---
The expedition goes on. Due to the occurrences of unexpected events, the team occasionally ends up doing what has not been planned. Now, the expedition team has split into two squads for the time being.
I (Hector_1304) and the muscle (Gideon Yendrey Drahctrex, the forger) form the male (mail?) squad. Mary Teana Blockheart (the Pluck Princess) and Wendietrea Nevaryt-terp (the postal princess) belong to the female squad. (Please do not tell me that they are seriously thinking about calling their squad ‘the Princess Party’ or something like that. It sounds corny.)
The reason for the temporary split is quite simple. It is not that we are fighting against each other for political or emotional reasons. I and my master, Wendy, used to be on bad terms for many reasons such as my losing the ways, forgetting the arts of defense, and flirting with the love affairs with the dishy diva. We are now completely done with the thing of the past.
A few days ago, the expedition team was just reaching the feminist floor. Only females are allowed to enter the floor. (The Stairway Shieldian was guarding one of the entrances. I had to battle my way through him while trying to reach my runaway master, not knowing that I was not allowed to enter the floor. That was another battle I lost.) The female squad has just entered the feminist floor, and the male counterpart has to use the bypass stairway (for males only) to reach the floor above the feminist floor.
I wonder if whoever actually designed and constructed Towerld have thought of adding a bypass stairway that leads all the way to the summit, that may or may not exist. Such a shortcut would make our lives in this harsh reality of the construction world too easy. I guess such an easy life will diminish the purposes of our existences for having to live the hard ways. (Something in my mind is telling me that the shortcut goes against the policy of Towerld, whatever the policy may be.)
---02---
After walking through the bypass stairway, we have not quite reached the next level yet.
The stairway is gradually losing its inclination. The longitudinal size (or the surface area, for that matter) of the stair tread (the distance between two vertical stair risers that sandwich the horizontal stair tread) is getting wider, as we get closer to the upper floor above the feminist floor. (In other words, the ‘going’ is getting longer.) The risers are diminishing in size. The pitch of the stair is diminishing. The stairway constantly changes its shape, and it is now a gently sloping hallway, even before we have reached the next level. The slope is not steep, and it has to use a long distance to bypass just one level. It is as if it is accommodating handicapped people on wheelchairs.
Come to think about it, I have never seen a handicapped person in my life. I have read about them in scholastic textbooks for educated people. The flooded floor, which used to be my home level, offers a unique environment that is too harsh for physically challenged people. (They cannot survive the artificial selection.) That explains why I have never seen them in my life.
Does this mean that there are real handicapped people on the floor that we are heading for?
Actually, I find this slope to be more convenient than regular stairways, because both Gideon and I are carrying luggage by using roller bags that are heavier than the respective owners. I wonder how the ladies are dealing with their luggage. After all, they are not exactly powerhouses of our caliber. Probably, they are using the special baggage conveyor belt that runs along the stairway that they are using. (Gideon and I had been using the slope that is constructed alongside the stairway.)
---03---
I am not exactly revving up this moment in the hallway to the next level. I mean, I cannot possibly imagine myself enjoying the time with a gigantic dude. The scenery of the hallway stays the same. If those ladies were close to me, they would not bore me at all. At least, their looks are worthy of my attention. Perhaps, I can gaze into the bulging biceps of the forger right next to me. However, that proposal just does not sound too sexy. (If I am finding that sort of thing to be sexy, then I have to contend with many other issues as well.)
I cannot just stay silent here. I do not get to talk to Gideon too often, because I am usually very busy with other matters, such as guarding my client (the Pluck Princess) and interacting with the female members of the expedition. I might as well talk to Gideon about, something. For example, I am curious of his (unrequited?) crush on Mary Teana Blockheart. (I do not quite understand what the Pluck Princess is thinking about this gentle giant. I guess I will ask her about it later.)
Uh, well, Gideon?
Yes, chief?
That is right. He treats me as the chief guard that I am. Actually, those ladies have certified me as the chief guard as well. (My master still treats me like I am also her apprentice, though.)
Here is my mistake. I have not thought about the topic to talk to him about. Bummer!
Well, um, I mean. You know?
I cannot improvise by talking about weather. (What is ‘weather’? There is no such thing as weather in a hallway of Towerld. I happen to know such an outdoor and foreign concept, just because I have read about it in an academic book before.)
Suddenly, I am not so sure if it would be smart of me to start talking about the Pluck Princess out of the blue. That is not natural. It would make me look as if I have not gotten her over and over with. I no longer have a crush on Mary Teana, because I prefer being a mere spectator of a theater and revere the deluxe diva on stage while keeping a certain distance. I want no one but my cute master to be right next to me.
If I do not come up with a right topic now, this may end up being a conversation just for the sake of conversation.
I cannot take this awkward silence anymore. Here goes nothing. I am opening this conversation.
I am just wondering, how the ladies of the expedition team are, doing, now.
That is not smooth of me.
