Towerld Level 0012: The Twisted Tyrant and Damsels In Distress
()
About this ebook
Hector_1304 and the strange companions head for the barrier-free floor, to search for the Pluck Princess and to apologize to Towbie about failing the mission. The Stairway Shieldian speaks of his life story and the history of Towerld. What are the stairway floor and the ‘treadnauts’? The ongoing feud between the disabled and the able-bodied people is sinfully deep, as much as the grudge between the wheeler-dealer and the Stairway Shieldian.
At the entrance of the barrier-free floor, they encounter the gizmo goons in black suits. The one behind this innovative method of ‘subhuman’ resource cultivation is shocking and expected.
Towbie the Twisted, who is even outdoing the drug lord, reveals his spies and the secrets involving the feminist floor. What is his method of “the wrong people in the wrong places”?
By the way, this is time to worry about Gideon, not the wedding.

Part One
--- 01 ---
Calm down.
First, I have to make sure that Wendy is safe and alive. She is lying on the floor, face down. I cannot quite tell how she is doing.
I gently grab her shoulders from behind, and roll the body to make sure that she faces upward. (Her frame is slender, and she is light. I have no time to appreciate this frailty, though.)
As I try to gaze into her face to check her condition, I am being inclined to question my sanity.
--- 02 ---
That is Wendy’s face. I can tell that her eyes are big and round, even when her eyelids are shut. That is the familiar face that reminds me of a little animal. This time, she reminds me more of a cat than a squirrel. A cat?
What the Hector is that!?
Wendy, when have you decided to grow whiskers?
Wait. They look like vibrissae of a cat. Actually, someone has used ink of some sort to draw on her cheeks (nonexistent buccal pouches) lines that are radially spreading from her lips and nose. As if they are not enough, black ink is applied on parts under her eyes (above buccal pouches, I mean, cheeks). They are ‘eye black’. According to a book I read before, there is no scientific proof that eye black can protect optic nerves from sunlight (that I have not seen in my life).
--- 03 ---
What is the meaning of this? Wendy is known for the cuteness of a little animal, and she is not quite famous for her being a sexy seductress. (Now, what am I thinking in this situation?) Still, it makes no difference in a sense that my master is a female. I am not sure if she has already hit the age of adolescence. (At least, she does not look like she has grown up to that point.) To provide face paint on a face of a female (apparently without getting permission) is undoubtedly out of the question of morality. What can be even ruder than that?
Face paint of a little animal on a face of a little animal. Yeah, that is something new, I suppose. Wendy is as adorable as a little squirrel to start with, and this ‘makeup’ matches her charm surprisingly. Ain’t she lovely, or what? What? I feel tempted to caress her to celebrate her cuteness.
Come on. Give me a break. What am I thinking? I am being quite disrespectful to my master. How naughty I am becoming! Can anyone imagine an apprentice who would giggle at the master’s facial makeup like that? (Yeah, I am the living proof for the existence of such a despicable disciple, all right.)
Forgive me for being such a thankless apprentice, my master. I am just trying so hard to state that nothing can ruin such a cute face.
--- 04 ---
Seriously, this is a dire situation. This is no laughing matter.
I am yet to make sure that she is still alive. I get my ear very close to her nose. Yes, I can feel the movement of the air, and hear the breathing. It is tickling my earlobe. That is good news. That audible pounding is from my own heartbeat, for goodness sake. My pulse is getting loud, and that gets on the way of my trying to check the signs of my master’s life. (Why do I have to feel nervous?)
Now, what?
Instinctively, I look up to see the Stairway Shieldian, who has been behind me and looking over my shoulder to observe Wendy’s condition. We now know that she is at least alive, and he has just come very close to letting out a sigh of relief. (We are still not out of hot water, and he probably knows that.)
I am calling the medical team.
The Stairway Shieldian is facing the communication panel installed on the wall, and uttering something to the microphone. He is trained as a guard, and knows the drill of ensuring emergency contact quickly while sacrificing the elaborateness. Speed kills, I guess. It is better to be brisk and slapdash than painstaking but slow.
--- 05 ---
This is not looking too good. In fact, this is bad. Really bad. (I can still state that this is not quite the worst ever, though.)
Wendy is still with me, and she is still alive. That is good news, and that is it. She is still unconscious, and her face is augmented, I mean, ruined by the cat’s whiskers drawn in ink. (How am I going to explain this to her, when she wakes up? Talk about a rude awakening!)
As if whatever have happened to my master are not bad enough, the Pluck Princess, my client, is nowhere to be found at this moment. Has she been abducted? The fact of her absence is surely gnawing at my heart. I do not even want to imagine the worst-case scenario. What if Mary Teana is the culprit of the mischief? Did she knock Wendy unconscious somehow, and did she give a paint job on the pretty face? If that is the case, for what reason would she do that?
So many questions. Who will provide the answers to so many unknowns? Perhaps, Wendy saw what transpired. If the Pluck Princess turns out to be safe, and I manage to talk to her again, will she tell me everything that I want to know?
For the time being, I just wait for the medical squad that the Stairway Shieldian is summoning. Once my master recovers, then we will move on to the next phase.
--- 06 ---
What is the Stairway Shieldian doing now?
He is not even trying to hide the facial expression of disappointment, and sitting down on a tread of Direct-link Stairway #13 leading to the barrier-free floor while looking down and covering his head with his hands. Even though it is none of my business, I am wondering if he should be on the duty of guarding this checkpoint. Is it that there is more to his mission than just guarding the gateway? I cannot muster enough courage to ask him a question.
Is he feeling the responsibility? What responsibility? The defense-oriented chief guard of the expedition decided to leave the duty of guarding the client (the Pluck Princess) up to the speed-oriented squirrel master, and went to the rescue of the struggling Stairway Shieldian. That move resulted in rendering the defense of the Pluck Princess vulnerable, and we are now paying the price for that. Perhaps, I felt safe to see my female teammates behind the hefty metallic door. The steel plate that is too heavy for the ladies ended up clogging their possible escape route, and it made them defenseless against the potential assaults from the spiral stairway on the other side
