Prologue: The Job

I cannot believe it! Simone Laverte mused as he was looking at the offer letter that he was holding in his hand. It has been a dream come true for him to have that piece of a letter in his hand right now. He was walking gingerly to his mansion before he was making his way to the study room where his trusted lawyer, Mr. Addington was looking over his company that was an inheritance from his parents.

It has been forever that Simone ever thought about his parents but today was the day that he felt like he wanted to remember them since he has finally being admitted to one of the world-famous psychiatrists in the whole world that was led by Dr. Sean Copper. He cannot wait to meet and greet him in person. Dr. Sean was someone to be admired. Simone can hardly contain his scream when he read the letters.

I have to pack immediately. The car should be here soon, he said as Simone went inside the house that was the legacy of his parents. Simone Laverte was an orphan that was being supervised by his family lawyer, Mr. Addington, and he thinks his lawyer would be thrilled to hear about this.

But of course, Simone’s hope and dream were shattered by a single word.

No, the lawyer said curtly as he was putting another document on the piles as Simone was standing in front of his desk.

But, why sir? He asked as Simone did not understand the reason behind his lawyer’s opposition. Mr. Addington knew that Simone wanted to be a psychiatrist for as long as he can remember.

Because you have a company to run. I will not be here forever, Simone, and you have to take care of your parents’ legacy, Addington stated that made Simone rolled his eyes at him. But that would be later on since you are strong as an ox right now, Simone mused before he was clearing his throat, trying to find the means to argue with his trusted lawyer.

Addington has been serving his family since it was his grandfather’s time. It was hardly a secret that Simone considered his lawyer was a grandfather to him since his real grandfather has been dead since he was a babe.

Please, you will not go anywhere. Besides, you like it, Simone said as he was waving his hand dismissively. His lawyer was pinching his nose bridge at him. Clearly, his pleading was not making any effort that Simone wanted it to be.

I have to try harder, Simone thought as he was looking at the old lawyer who was sitting at the mahogany desk that has been his fortress ever since Simone can remember.

Look, Simone, I will not be here and you know your investors in the company will try anything to get you out of the board. And if they succeeded, God forbid, you will lose everything, Addington said as he was looking at Simone concerned. Simone sighed before he went to sit in front of the chair at the desk.

Just give me one month. If I don’t want to be there, then, I will come back and manage the company with you, Simone argued as he was looking at his lawyer. Addington was thinking as Simone can see his motor was turning inside his head.

Okay, fine. One month, no more, no less, he said as he looked at Simone. The young doctor beamed before Simone nodded at him.

Thank you so much. It means a lot to me, Simone said as he was hugging the old lawyer behind the desk. Addington was shocked at his gesture but did not say anything.

If anything, the old lawyer was patting his hand on Simone’s back, as an act of encouragement, Simone thought but he bit his words down in his throat before they were breaking apart from the hug that Simone initiated.

Well, off you go now. I see you in a month, Addington said as he pushed so that he can go back to work. Simone smiled before he ran to his room and took the necessary things that he needed. Simone was hoping that he can get more than one month but one can only hope if his lawyer agrees to let him stay a little longer.

Tonight will be a brand-new day for me, the young doctor said as he was standing at the gate of the airplane to board. Simone was so happy that the hospital was managing everything, from his ticket flights and his documents to stay in Seychelles Island. I will miss Wales, but this new adventure thrills me, Simone thought as he was looking at the island that he was leaving behind before he was leaning against the chair of the airplane that took him to Seychelles Island.

After some hours and dozing off in the plane that Simone doesn’t even know any back pain anymore, he landed on the main Island. He has to go on a ferry to the hospital’s location so he was ready to get going.

This is a brand new beginning and I will make sure that I will learn everything that I needed from Dr. Copper, Simone mused before someone was looking at him and shouted at him.

Where to, young man? The captain of the ferry asked me as Simone was looking at him. He was wary as Addington warned him about mere strangers who wanted to rob him. His facial expression must be giving it away but Simone shook the thought off from his head.

Um, Rehabilitation center? he said before the captain nodded at him. The captain waved at him to board the ship and with a strong hope that the captain was the key
