Nikki Larousse

Nikki Larousse, who was reared in northeastern Malaysia, has always been enthralled with mythology from all around the world. She would always return to the escapism she found in writing things down, even if she had to focus on reality and pursue her higher education and work-life balance on the side. The majority of her creations are rooted in notorious Western myths, accounts, and folklore. She does, however, also incorporate Malay folklore from her cultural background into her stories. So, if you dare to dream of cunning heroes and fierce heroines who battle together to achieve their happily ever-afters, enter her realms of Larouverse.

    Perfect Polarity - Nikki Larousse

    Prologue

THE files that were dropped on Megan’s desk were enormous. She turned to look at her colleague, Theo before she arched her eyebrow at him.

What’s this? she asked before she was looking at the content of the files. It was for a missing person and this one was the latest request from two families that were looking for the same person.

Olivia Laverte, Megan mused before she flipped the files and read the descriptions that were given by her family as well as her fiancé’s family.

That’s nice, she mused, to have a fiancé that was looking for you, she thought before she was turning to look at Theo again. The man was not sleeping these days.

Having trouble sleeping? she asked before she closed the files as the detective was sighing.

Something like that, he replied, ignoring their other colleague that ran the business of finding a missing person, Reese.

Woah, I think we have a lot of stuff to be done here, Reese said before Megan was rolling her eyes at him.

And you’re supposed to be on the field to track them down, Reese. Seriously, why are you even at the office? I thought you were trying to talk to someone that may be a lead to us finding this Olivia, Megan said before Reese smirked at her.

Ah, the serious Megan. Always wanted to do work. Don’t you have a date or someone to go home to at night? he asked before she scowled.

Megan did not like to talk about her love life with her friends, let alone her colleagues. It was not their business anyway.

Whatever. Just get it done with and I will have more information to pinpoint this person, Megan said before she was flapping the files in the air.

Reese smirked before he saluted and went out to meet this woman’s fiancé to get more information and Theo was looking outside the window, lost in his own thoughts.

You can always tell us what was bothering you, you know? We’re friends and we have each other’s back, she said before Theo turned to look at her. He smiled weakly before he took a deep breath.

"I’m afraid this time, it has to be me alone," he mumbled before he took the other case files and went out of the office, leaving Megan alone and trying to pinpoint this Olivia Laverte.

Where would you go, Olivia? she asked herself before she was returning to files and hoping that she would have more information about this redheaded woman with peculiar iris.

    Violet. It suited her.

Megan sighed before she was turning to look outside the office that overlooked the city of London. It has been years since she was back in her hometown and this time, she meant to stay.

As well as Theo and Reese.

This time, it was their old wounds to score but of course, after finding this missing woman first.

THE CLIENT WAS LOOKING around the restaurant that Reese has ordered him to come to. He did not know what to say about this man as he was sitting there, staring at Reese as if he was an experiment under his grey orbs. It was unnerving to be stared at but Reese ignored it.

He cleared his throat before he laid out the files that were informing their little private investigation firm about this latest missing person.

Her name was Olivia Laverte, 23 years old and last seen was in London. Reese needed more than that to find her if this fiancé of hers was willing to talk.

So, Mr. Copper, when was the last time you were in contact with your fiancée? Reese asked him before he was uncapping his pen and ready to make new notes on the information that he might get from him today.

Mr. Copper, a blonde man with grey orbs was clearing his throat before threading his fingers together as he was leaning forward on the table before speaking up about his missing fiancée.

"We were together 3 months ago when I was supposed to be meeting with her at the dock. I was running a little late when she texted me that someone was following her.

But I ignored it, thinking that she was jesting but then it stopped. I arrived later that evening and there was no sign of her. Only her phone was left behind at where we were supposed to meet, Mr. Copper said before he sighed.

And that was when I find the letter that said that they have her, he added before Reese made some notes.

And do you have any idea who might have some grudge or old score to settle with you? he asked Mr. Copper before the grey orbs were snapping to his face. Reese gulped under his stare.

"I am a doctor from the countryside. Why would someone go after me? I did not know anyone that was powerful enough to take on me, let alone my fiancée. We were just a country couple that wanted to explore London and this happened," Mr. Copper said before he sighed.

Please, just find my Olivia. Bring her back to me safely, he pleaded before Reese was making some last notes before closing the files and nodded at him.

We will try our best, sir. Do not despair for we shall find your bride, Reese said before Mr. Copper smiled at him.

Thank you, he said before Reese stood up and shook his head.

Have a good day and we will inform you if there was any progress later on, he said before exiting the restaurant, wanting to end the despair that he found in the man’s grey orbs.

Reese never knew that feeling but he knew how much it would feel like to lose someone that was important to him.

I know that feeling too well, he said before he was stepping onto the sidewalk and suddenly, he was hitting someone.

I am so sorry sir, the woman that he was hitting said with an accent that he did not recognize. Maybe up from the north.

No worries, he mumbled before he was helping her to get the stuff that she dropped and gave it back to her. Their hands touched and instantly, he retracted his hands after he gave the stuff to the woman.

So sorry. I was not looking where I was going, the woman said before she rushed into the restaurant that he just got out from. Reese turned back to look at the woman and instantly regretted it.

For the woman was talking to Mr. Copper with such familiarity that he knew they were involved with each other.

"Just walk away, Reese. Do not look back," he chanted and went to their office before he turned back and went after that woman. He learned that lesson before and nothing will come out of it.

Reese made a promise that it will never happen and he had kept that promise long enough to forget what it felt like when he wanted to throw his caution to the wind and take what was rightfully his.

But he has stuff to do and no room for casual dating. He got laid with a wench later and perhaps that will end his misery for not having a woman to warm his bed at night.

By then, Reese will not get involved and he has to make sure that Megan will get this information as soon as possible before the day ended.

AFTER THAT AWKWARD accident in front of the restaurant, Grace Laverte, the younger sister of the missing Olivia Laverte went to meet her future brother-in-law, Spencer Copper.

    Grace can
