Chapter One: A Beautiful Sunset

The sun is quickly approaching the horizon as Christi and I drive along the highway just outside Albuquerque. For years we have enjoyed the occasional ride in the desert and at times we have even stopped to watch the red sunset in the distance. Today is a day in which we have found ourselves in need of some time to reflect and relax, so we pull into a small overlook just outside of town.

This is always so beautiful, Christi says as she smiles over at me. After a long day at work, what better way is there to spend our time, Zane?

Oh, I don’t know, maybe having a cold beer or something like that at home, I joke after turning off the car’s engine. It’s hot out there, Christi. Are you sure you want to sit outside?

Come on, Zane. Don’t be such a party pooper. She laughs before opening her car door and stepping outside. I reluctantly do the same and walk over to where she is standing near the edge of the overlook. This is one of the first places you took me on a date. Do you remember?

I nod my head, though my memories of the time are a bit foggy for me. Yeah, I remember. You were wearing a bikini then, right?
