Chapter 1 - What is the Detox Diet
There are various types of detox diets. Some encourage you to drink liquids and forget about solid foods. While these detox diets can help you lose weight, they are only more likely to work for the short term. If you want long-term results, you should choose a healthy diet that works slowly but yields permanent effects.
You do not necessarily need to feel weak or hungry during detox. Actually, detox is simply about choosing the right foods and avoiding those that are bad for you.
There are various kinds of detox diet recommended by experts. In general, the diet is done in a short-term basis but:
• Helps minimize the amount of food chemicals ingested by organic food consumption
• Gives emphasis on foods that have loads of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants the body needs for proper detoxification.
Studies show that majority of the chemicals we ingest everyday (through air, water and food) can be stored into fat cells from the body. The toxins are seen in the presence of antibiotics, pesticides and unnecessary hormones brought by food packaging, additives, pollution and even cigarette smoke. Insufficient nutrients may impair our body’s natural ability to get rid of toxins, which further leads to the build-up of fat cells.

Kinds of Foods Allowed to Eat
In order to make a meal plan that works, it is crucial that you know the types of food that will do you good. The rule of thumb is to indulge in fruits and vegetables. Consume a load of fiber as such encourages bowel movement. Such foods include leafy greens and whole vegetables, gluten free grains and brown rice, lentils, beans, nuts, berries, whole fruits, coconut oil, green tea, apple cider vinegar, stevia, organic turkey and chicken and wild fish among others. Remember this when planning your meals.
Things You Must Avoid During Detox
During detox alcohol is a big no-no. Fast foods, fatty foods and pre-packaged foods should also be avoided. You should also say goodbye to coffee, soda, pork, beef, wheat, gluten, soy, processed sugar, corn oil, whey protein and the like.
Side Effects
Mental and physiologic symptoms could manifest during the process of detoxification. These may occur due to certain changes in the way of living like going into exercise, diet modification, or changing a previous habit such as opting for plain black coffee instead of a cup with sugar and cream.
Detoxification side effects could occur as fever, coughing, headache, colds, rash, or feeling under the weather. These may occur briefly and
