About this ebook

This book covers all the basic knowledge of health in all the six domains of health, and is based on the triune concept of humans: the spirit, soul and body. This has been a mystery surrounding human nature. As we are spiritual beings, the 6D of health explores not just the physical, social, family and emotional domains, but also the spiritual and mental domains of health, which could render the ‘biopsychosocial model’ of health obsolete in its conceptualisation.

The aim of this book is primarily to offer more preventative solutions for a disease-free existence as the prevalence of specific conditions has risen dramatically. Through this book, I share advice and certain knowledge (based on research) that is only available to those in the medical profession. For my readers, it will unravel not just a dimensional approach to health but that of medical, holistic and spiritual concepts that guide healthy living. You will also understand the roots of certain diseases – i.e. the spiritual element, which is not taken into consideration during treatment but could help patients. To date, following the spiritual root of certain conditions is not something treatment options account for. This could be a difficult subject for further research exploration. The knowledge, skills and valuable insights offered through understanding of the 6D of health will impact on your journey towards reaching a healthier life.

The 6D of Health - James Alegbeleye

    Introduction

This book is intended to be a new wake up call for readers to act in the wake of unhealthy lifestyle campaigns for the disabling and crippling diseases that affect many lives around the world. It is not a series of idle tales. There are many campaigns and organisations that promote healthy living. Healthy living has been an illusion for many. Most campaigns focus on a combination of lifestyle changes like regular exercise, good nutrition and a positive mental attitude. It is fair to say that these changes do contribute to a lifetime of optimum health. Many organisations and campaigns specifically promote healthy living with a view to reducing obesity rates and other health problems among children and adults. Their help and expertise has raised awareness and inspired thousands to take better care of themselves. Although the efforts are recognised, overall, little is known about the long-term effects of preventing the rampage of the many chronic diseases that affect so many lives.

I believe this book is more precious than rubies or gold when in the hands of someone who will find it to be a useful tool. One’s health is an asset, too expensive to purchase and dearer than money. This applies to any individual in the world. Everyone needs total well-being. It’s understandable to think that wealth is important, but, from experience, I certainly believe that health is the primary asset. It should be an entitlement for any individual, regardless of race, culture or ethnic background.

Much of the information in this book has been well researched, but some of it is based on my own personal experiences. It may mean that you are already familiar with, and following, some parts of the book. Likewise, you may find some new information, based on my own practical life experiences and encounters, enlightening. In my daily walks, I have met people crying out for a solution to their health challenges, and some continue to live a life with no hope or further guidance. If you fall under this category, you may find this book a concise guide to regaining total well-being.

Is Disease Prevention Better than the Cure?

Yes, certainly. Across the globe, the use of preventative measures has been at the heart of primary prevention especially the epidemiological control of infectious diseases, health and safety, as well as in other affairs of life, even in the financial sector. We are all familiar with the adage: prevention is better than the cure (The Lancet,1897; Cheung, F.,2013). This is certainly true of many things.

In the health sector, prevention refers to the actions that inhibit the manifestation of diseases. This may also include actions to improve outcomes. Prevention is the primary shield that saves mankind from many disasters, chaos and destruction. Through prevention, the associated discomfort and cost that accompanies ill health, is averted. It is much easier to prevent the onset of ill health than cure it. Treatments fundamentally involve greater efforts and rigorous actions before one can overcome, or minimise the effects of, the illness experienced. A cure is a blessing, but prevention is a wise action. Prevention of infectious diseases through proper hygiene, such as regular hand washing to prevent illnesses caused by infectious agents, are regularly seen in practice in hospitals. It is cheaper to implement fire safety precautions in an organisation than face the cost and consequences of a fire. This is the most important drive behind writing this book. The purpose of this book is not only to educate ordinary people, but to enlighten health professionals.

Almost every country around the world has embraced preventative measures such as vaccinations, screening tests and health education as a means of preventing diseases, some of which have made a huge positive impact. In the current climate, there is a greater need for advocacy to enlighten people, and to ensure that people live a life of wellness, free of illnesses and diseases. This may seem an illusion to some, but it is attainable and realistic. More work is needed to consolidate the efforts of government control policies, the World Health Organisation (WHO), individuals and non-governmental organisations to prevent the effects of chronic diseases on people’s lives.

We must praise the efforts of various institutions and individuals who have worked so doubtlessly and tirelessly to ensure the health of the population is guaranteed. However, the ongoing, sky-rocketing costs of medical screenings and preventative measures has given room for concern. Are these sustainable in the long run? Say, to 2050? Prolonging and increasing awareness of various physical preventative measures such as diet, fitness/exercise and avoidance of smoking and alcohol is also important. So, it is disappointing that they are unable to prevent a range of diseases. Without taking all the preventative measures within the domains of health into consideration, many of these physical preventative measures are unlikely to work or be effective for every disease and illness, as has been observed in the last ten decades, especially when considering illnesses that predominantly originate within the soul and the spirit. This concept may be entirely novel for many, but my understanding, through inspiration, has indicated that many of life’s challenges and illnesses surely originated from the realms of the spirit.

Impact of Preventative Medicine on Mankind

Scientists have worked rigorously hard over the last 40 years to develop new vaccines. This effort continues to pay benefit to people’s health through preventing an epidemic outbreak of serious infectious diseases, thereby saving the lives of many. Through scientific discovery, they have made it possible to discover a range of live and non-live vaccines, which have proved to be a cost-effective means of preventing serious infectious diseases across the globe. These vaccines include the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella), anti-tuberculosis vaccine and some virus-related vaccines such as influenza, hepatitis and yellow fever. The efforts of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) is evident through their wide-spread promotion of vaccinations across Europe through various campaigns (ECDC; 2012).

A WHO publication confirmed that vaccinations play an active role in the reduction of disease, disability, death and iniquity worldwide (Andre F.E. et al., 2008). The benefits of vaccinations are imperative in lessening the burdens associated with infectious diseases. However, the safety of vaccines has raised contention in the public domain by drawing mass attention to their risks rather than their effectiveness. Evidence has shown that vaccines are far safer than therapeutic medicines. It also appears that vaccine safety issues are more commonly reported than the benefits, although one cannot underestimate the risks of any drug-related error.

Ample evidence has shown that comprehensive vaccination programmes are a cornerstone (ECDC; 2012), but it is important that we embark on timely global access to key life-saving immunisations, especially in the developing nations, where a significant proportion of the rural population are deprived of such benefits. There is a need to educate people, on an individual level, worldwide, on the benefits and risks of vaccinations.

    Progress with Medical Therapy

There has been immense progress in medical therapy, which includes the use of biologics, chemotherapy, surgical procedures and even robotic surgery. Other medical advances such as gene therapy, cloned replacement organs, stem-cell therapy, life-extension technologies, the promised spin-offs from genomics and new tailored medical treatments, are not routinely available despite the many diseases that manifest themselves as persistent, chronic debilitating diseases. The evolving role of gene therapy is also attracting interest at a faster pace.

    Advancing Medical Science and Technology

Over the last four decades, we have seen the emergence of sophisticated medical technologies, some of which are already available and in wide use across healthcare establishments in developed countries. Further advances are constantly being made, but developing countries are still struggling, financially, to catch up with life-saving advances such as the use of nanotechnology, molecular and cellular biology. There is still a need to further advance medical or personalised therapy. Despite the benefits of such technology, it appears that advancing technology has presented physicians and patients with serious ethical dilemmas in terms of resolution and the extinction of chronic, debilitating incurable diseases.

This is a call for more advanced approaches to save mankind from the dangers of such conditions. Evidence clearly suggests that there is a need for intensifying research opportunities in various aspects of medical illnesses. Thanks to research, there has been a decline in children’s cancer mortality rates in Britain by more than 66% since the early 1970s (Cancer Research UK, 2014). We do face a threat from the financial cost of beneficial research. In 2006, a total of £658m was spent on cancer research in the UK, an increase of 7% from the previous year. However, despite the cost, further investment is likely to make a huge impact as the cost of conducting good research is rising.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers, payers and healthcare providers, as well as a host of tech-focused newcomers, are exploring digital programs that complement standard therapies and hold the promise of keeping patients healthier, potentially leading to better outcomes. There are a variety of apps that cover this: fitness/exercise/pedometer, food/nutrition, weight loss, blood pressure, medication tracker, medical condition management and disease management, to name a few.

The Kantar Media Survey 2015 found that many US physicians believed these apps would be beneficial as fitness apps, calorie/diet tracker apps and nutrition or healthy recipes apps as they would help to improve current lifestyles, but I do not think they would provide a curative approach. Instead, it is a sensible preventative tool, enabling patients to manage their conditions better.

    Public Understanding of Science

Our current society has a myriad of complex understandings due to various groups with different belief systems, some of which originated over thousands of years back. Family background may also play a role in determining the belief system. Someone born to a Christian family will most likely exhibit Christian values and beliefs. We need to make sure that love and compassion are fundamental across societies. The world is full of religious groups whose aim is to reach God – the Creator/Elohim. The truth is that we do not need to attempt to reach God anymore. The salvation of man through Jesus Christ has rendered a solution to the struggle to reach God. The same God has come to live in the heart or spirit of men through the salvation that Christ brought to men. Many people in the world are rather anti-Creator, and some even believe that there is no God. I am not able to judge anyone. As you go further through this book, the illumination of the gospel of Christ will shine into your heart. You will discover that there is more reason to establish a better understanding of the complexity of our society, and the complete freedom from sickness and diseases.

Understanding How Scientists Feel About Creation

Scientists are divided in their beliefs and acceptability of the deity of God or Jesus Christ. There are scientists who believe in the parallelism of science and God. Some may even view belief in a deity as irrational, but they do not view questions related to the existence of deities or the sacred as within the scope of science. In a recent study to evaluate this disparity among scientists, it showed that 80% of 48 scientists interviewed believed that Richard Dawkins, who took a vociferous stand against creation by God, is wrong.

In my personal studies, I came across many scientists who had been victims of their aesthetic views of God and the propagation of theory of His non-existence. Let’s consider the case of a man called Gould. Gould was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, a deadly form of cancer affecting the abdominal lining, commonly found in people who have been exposed to asbestos or rock dust. He underwent treatment and was well for 20 years, but died on May 20, 2002 from a metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung.

    Are Christians Really Against Science?

In 2016, Christianity was, by far, the world’s largest religion, with an estimated 2.1 billion adherents, nearly a third (31%) of the 6.9 billion people on Earth. The study of the Holy Bible has shown that science and God are inseparable. The nature of creation depicts a very strong complex scientific work, which no man can unravel. In Genesis chapter 1 verse 1, it is stated that In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. Scientists who studied the universe formed a better understanding of the complexity of the creation, which is beyond scientific explanation. God is a God of wisdom and understanding. It battles my mind how material things appear, and I am sure many scientists think the same. But it is only through faith that one can accept that the statement is a fact: that the Elohim created all things out of nothing. It is affirmed that these material things were spoken forth by the God who is called the Omniscience, the God that knows all things. The limitation of science is that it is only able to provide explanations or produce evidence in the physical realm, whereas life is more spiritual than physical. Man is spiritual and was, supposedly, meant, by the Creator, to function as God as He functions as a spirit being. However, this capability appeared to have been lost after the fall of man in the garden of Eden. As it is written in the Scripture, Christians ought to believe that He created all things, including science. Science states that any defects must reflect its costs in the sense. Science only explains how the human body functions, but the theories are unable to replicate creation. I believe we have a serious task and challenge to disprove the existence of God the Creator.

What Went Wrong with Mankind After Creation?

The existence of man on this earth has left many people, including scientists, baffled, and with unravelled mystery. For those of us who believe, we understand that God is the Creator of man. There are still many left to fathom the greatness of God, and that our existence isn’t the result of a Big Bang that violates the first law of thermodynamics, which indicates that heat is a form of energy, and thermodynamic processes are therefore subject to the principle of conservation of energy. In addition, there are no exotic cosmic bodies found to date that could have been the product of the Big Bang according to the theory. We understood from the Scripture, as the Bible says:

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (Genesis 2:7 NKJV).

So, God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created he them (Genesis 1:27 NKJV).

We understood that Adam was the first man from the creation and out of his body God created his wife, Eve. After Adam was created, we understood that everything that God had created was good.

And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day (Genesis 1:31 KJV).

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die’ (Genesis 2:15-17 NKJV).

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him (Genesis 2:18 NKJV).

Therefore, we understood that the Elohim (God) created man in His image. Meaning, we are meant to function as God. We can create to a certain limit, as things are today, but, unfortunately, man lost the spiritual relation and capabilities like God after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. It is to the credit of our creation, by His unfailing mercy, to try and buy us back through salvation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, Jesus Christ came to redeem us from sins, poverty, sickness and eternal death. It is the desire of the Creator that we live a healthy life, a life free of sickness and disease. Unfortunately, many continue to ignore, through a state of ignorance, that man’s sickness and diseases have been paid for, and we can only boldly come before the throne of grace to obtain mercy for our healing.

The statistics indicate that there are many people living with chronic conditions worldwide despite the infallible Truth in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, some without the prospect of a medical cure. I stood my ground in the last years to test and verify this Truth that Jesus Christ took our sickness and diseases over two thousand years ago for everyone. Though, this is obtainable by faith in His Word. God can send His Words that can heal and deliver you.

    Chapter 1

Understanding Of The 6D Of Health

    What is health?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

The definition of health, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit.

Health is wealth. Health is a state of complete physical well-being and a state of bodily abstinence from disease. With significant advances in the medical field, the average life expectancy continues to improve around the world. For instance, in England we can now expect a man to live to 80.77 years of age. Although this is good news overall, there are financial and economic implications.

    The WHO determinants of Health

The health of individuals and communities is determined and affected by several factors. According to WHO,
