Kat showed up at Lola’s café two hours before her meeting with Granger’s sister. She didn’t know what to expect from their chat, and she didn’t know what Lola was going to tell her. The world of the supernatural was still pretty new to her. She was a Druid, but had no idea what that meant.

Granger didn’t want to talk about what she was. He said it didn’t concern him and Kat believed that, but she didn’t know why he wasn’t concerned. She was concerned.

Lola wasn’t working the bar today. She sat in a corner of the café, away from customers, working on a laptop. She looked up as soon as Kat got to the top of the stairs, as though she could sense her arrival. Maybe she could. Kat didn’t think it would surprise her if Lola confessed to an extra sense.

Lola signaled the barista who nodded and started to make drinks. Kat took a seat opposite Lola, wondering how to begin the conversation. She’d already told Lola she was a Druid, but what did that really mean? She’d heard of Druids, but she’d always thought they were a myth.

Tell me about this latest stage of the initiation, Lola suggested.

Kat nodded. Well, after spending several hours having sex with a bunch of werewolves, Granger’s ex-girlfriend challenged me to a fight and I encased her in a wall of dirt.

Lola raised her brows, a slight smirk on her face. I assume you also released her.

Kat scowled. Yeah, Yaegher made me. I wasn’t even sure how I did it, but I talked to Gaia and asked her to release Lila and she did.

Bet Lila doesn’t give you any grief now.

I wouldn’t take that bet. The woman has a death wish, I swear. She’s looking for power and doesn’t care where it comes from.

Lola accepted their drinks from her barista, thanking the woman for delivering them to the table. Handing a caramel latte to Kat, she took a sip of her salted caramel mocha.
