IN CONVERSATION WITH Joanna Trollope

The novels of Joanna Trollope famously shine a forensic but acutely sensitive light on complex family dilemmas. Her latest novel, Mum & Dad , deals with the Beachams, who are thrown into disarray when expat father Gus suffers a stroke. It’s up to the three children based in London to travel to Spain and untangle their parents’ lives. The novelist lives in London, has two daughters and two stepsons, and is a doting grandmother.

I started writing when my youngest daughter was three, and now she’s 48, so things have certainly changed. I just write about whatever is grabbing me – whatever the preoccupation is in society.
