Kat went to work the next morning and barely got seated at her desk before Jenn headed her way. Directly after Yaegher's visit to the office last week, Kat had escaped as quickly as she could. She hadn't been back since, having taken the rest of the week off.

This was Jenn's first opportunity to talk to her and Kat was already wearying of the innuendo and straight up cattiness the woman showered on her.

Kat logged into her computer, took a quick glance at her list of emails and then grabbed her coffee cup. Before Jenn could speak, Kat stepped away from her desk and headed for the coffee station.

Her time with the Elders had shown her what coffee's extreme withdrawal symptoms did to her. Kat decided it would be a good idea to wean herself off coffee, little by little.

She didn't intend to go caffeine-free, but she could have a little less each day, until she wasn't so dependent upon it. She never wanted to feel the need crawling through her like it had when she'd been strapped to the Rack. And she could do without the monster headache and the shakes, too.

Kat brewed a new pot and waited while the liquid dribbled into the carafe. She loved the smell of fresh coffee. As she rinsed her cup at the sink, her boss approached her. He'd kept his distance for a while, but apparently Granger's warning had worn off. He moved in next to her and cupped his hand around her ass cheek. He gave her a good squeeze, ignoring the glare she shot him.

Kat, I need you to come to my office.

When he walked away without saying another word, she immediately got suspicious. What was he up to? Kat poured her coffee and doctored it with a little cream. Leaning against the counter, she took a small sip, savouring the flavour on her tongue before swallowing. She couldn't ignore her boss's request, but she didn't have to jump to follow it, either.

Jenn reached for the coffee carafe and filled her mug. So Kat, tell me about that guy, Yaegher, from the other day. Have you tossed Granger aside for him?

She sipped her coffee and smiled at Kat in the friendliest way Kat had ever seen before. Kat wasn't fooled by the sudden camaraderie. Jenn was hoping for gossip, or possibly to learn that the path was clear to Yaegher. Not that
