This should go without saying, but all characters in this book are over the age of 18.

This is the third installment in the 15 Layers trilogy. In order for them to make any sense, they must be read in order.

    Chapter One

Vidalia tossed and turned all night, having hot sex dreams about Artemis d’Onion. It seemed only moments after she fell asleep there came a terrible pounding on her front door.

She sat bolt upright in bed, knowing who stood on the other side of that door. Afraid he would awaken the whole building, she ran out of her room, down the hallway and into the living room. Unlocking the door, she pulled it open.

    Gee Whiz!

There he was, looking disheveled and sexy, arms outstretched with a hand holding either side of the doorframe. He obviously hadn’t shaved that morning, and the slight stubble on his face gave him an edge that made her knees weak.

    You quit?

Stepping back, she nodded. I had to.

    Why?

    You raped me.

Anger and frustration warred on his face as he shook his head, and he stepped into her apartment and slammed the door.

To hell I did. All you had to do was say one word, and I would have stopped.

    What?

Damn it, Vidalia. If you wanted me to stop, why didn’t you safe word?

    Red, stupid! Maniai taunted her.

She forgot about the safe word. Opening her mouth to argue, she realized there was nothing she could say. He was right. She didn’t use the safe word. In fact she had never said it to him.

Besides, you can’t quit. You signed that contract. He winked with a devilish smile.

    She glared. So sue me.

Maybe there’s a way we can settle out of court? He loosened the buckle and pulled his belt free of his slacks. She eyed it with trepidation as he brandished it between his hands.

You aren’t going to beat me with that, are you?

Scoffing at her, he rolled his eyes. I’m not a total monster. He suddenly frowned. Is that how you see me, Vidalia? A monster?

Not wanting to answer that, she pointed at the belt. Then what are you going to do with it.

    Come here.

She didn’t know what to do. Hopefully the loud knocking didn’t wake Ed. If it did, she hoped he would stay in the room, not wanting to consider what Artemis would do or think if he found a strange man in her apartment. Quickly glancing in the direction of Ivanka’s old room, she could see it was still closed.

    Gee Whiz!

    She shook her head. No.

He dropped to his knees. Please tell me you don’t think I’m a monster.

    Her heart ached at
