About this audiobook

Declan

I'm destined to become the next CEO of my family's media empire. The only problem? My grandfather's inheritance clause. Fulfilling his dying wish of getting married and having an heir seemed impossible until my assistant volunteers for the job.

Our marriage was supposed to be the perfect solution to my biggest problem. But the more we act in love for the public, the more unsure I feel about our contract. Caring about Iris was never part of the deal. Especially not when breaking her heart is inevitable.

Iris

My plan to marry Declan was simple in theory. Move in together. Throw a wedding. Have a baby. We set rules to prevent any kind of issues. Ones that were never meant to be broken, no matter how much Declan tempts me. But what happens when our fake relationship bleeds into our real one?

Falling in love was never an option. At least not for me.

Contains mature themes.

I love the arranged marriage trope. The backwards story just hits different. Here, I had a problem with Iris and her motivation to get into one with Declan. For him, it's simple: he wants to fullfil the necessary condition to become the CEO. But Iris? She just wanted to help him achieve his goal. This would be fine if it was just the marriage, but having a baby?! Girl, it's just too much to simply volunteer once the vetted candidate backs out.

Moreover, I just didn't vibe with the female narrator. For me her voice just sounds too mature for a character in her twenties. I loved Jason's narration for Declan. He was detached, emotionless at times and commanding, which fit perfectly with how I have imagined the character to be.

Iris is a character has some nice backbone. I loved how she didn't cower. All her realisations about her work life balance were so spot on. You get into the motions and only when you look back at all the sacrifices, you are able to see that the effort and payoff didn't add up.

The getting back my girl part was so sweet. I'm happy with how their story ended.

I loved it. I enjoyed the book very much. The narrators worked well for me. The maturity and professionalism they need for the roles they were reading for work perfectly. I dont understand everyones complaining about the narrators. I dont think the actor sounds old. Some of us just have mature voices.

I’m with majority of the reviewers about Iris’ narrator. Her voice isn’t an issue for Iris but her aggressive swallowing is distracting and it’s not like it’s fitting with what’s happening in the plot to say it was an interpretative choice. Also her accent for Mr. Yakura threw me off…the story itself is like a more toxic inverted version of The Proposal which I love!

Absolutely horrible female naration. I ended up fast forwarding her parts many times, I just couldn't bear is anymore..she must be at least 50 years old and her male voice sounded like a 70 years old man in pain. This butchered the whole audiobook.
The only thing kept me going was the male narrator, he did an amazing job!

But still can't get passed that someone approved and produced this audiobook in this form.

The story was ok. But buy the book or read it on your Kindle instead of this.

I can’t even finish listening to the book. The female narrator is horrible. You can hear her swallowing constantly…it is so distracting! And her male voices just do not fit the characters. So disappointing because I like the storyline.

I thought the storyline was good but the female narrator ruined this book for me. Her voice was hard to listen to for so many hours and when she read the male part it was even worse. I probably would have given this a 4star review if the female narrator was easier to listen to.
Maybe just grab the book or read on kindle.

The story line was great but I could not stand the female narrator. She is so difficult to listen to; her male voice is horrific and her diction becomes very hard and snappy at times. Such a huge let down for the book.

A predictable cute read... But the relationship between the two protagonists, especially in the beginning, was really toxic... ? I liked the first book more to be honest! ?
