About this audiobook

When you spend your life at the top, there's only one direction you can go.

Pro alpine skier Aspen Archer's downfall happened in the worst possible way-a career-ending crash on a gold medal run at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Aspen packed up her broken life, picked up her broken body, and now hides in comfortable obscurity at ski resorts around the world, coaching tourists and ignoring her problems.

Cate Tierney knows who Aspen Archer is, but the last place she expected to meet the former Olympian was during a ski trip to Australia. Hurt by a past relationship, and with a teenage daughter to protect, Cate's initial reluctance is quickly overcome by her intense attraction. But with Cate's vacation ending in a few short weeks and Aspen's aversion to staying in one place, can their encounter be anything more than a fling?

When Cate discovers Aspen's secrets, Aspen is forced to face everything she'd been trying to forget. And everything she'd forgotten she wanted. Aspen already knows the route from start to finish doesn't always go as planned. Now she needs to figure out how to get herself back on course for good.

    Full 5 stars
Yep, a full 5 stars. E. J. Noyes stories of damaged characters becoming whole again are full and complete.
The characters are completely likeable and you desperately want them to succeed.
The romance is intense, desperate, loving and extremely hot.
The skiing scenes are very interesting. All described perfectly.
The ending is truthful and very fulfilling. The last sentence absolutely sums up the feelings of the main character, Aspen.
I chose the audiobook because I love the narrator Abby Craden. She adds a whole other level of sensuality to the story.
    I highly recommend this book.

This was a 3.5ish stars for me. Which apparently puts me slightly in the minority, considering all the reviews I’ve read absolutely loving this wholeheartedly. This is the second book I’ve read by E.J. Noyes (the first being Turbulence) and like that one, I enjoyed this but I didn’t love it. This comes down to more personal preference things than a poorly written or executed book.

I’m not a huge fan of first person narration anymore, but I can get behind it. However, when it comes to romance, I always would much rather get both POVs (or more, if it’s poly) and actually see both parties falling in love, and be able to get inside their heads, rather than stick with only one character. I really wanted to hear Cate’s pov!! I also thought that the romance was a bit too instalove for my tastes. Aspen was basically ALL IN after a three week vacation, and then with the time split after they get back together, it’s careening pretty quickly into Uhaul and possible marriage soo quickly that I just found myself telling characters to shut up and stop moving so fast and essentially, yelling at my audiobook. (Which, is not new for me, I yell out loud at characters all the damn time when I read books). I also think that I somehow totally missed that Cate’s ex was abusive? I got that she didn’t really want Gemma, and was a manipulative, but later on when Aspen was talking about her thinking she’s might hit her or something, I was really confused and thrown off. i might have been checked out while listening when that came up or something and missed it, but it threw me.

I did absolutely LOVE Abby Craden’s narration. The voice she gave Gemma, in particular made me adore her. I enjoyed this and I’ll check out more form this author, became I hear nothing but great things and maybe I’ll connect a bit more with another one.

I love the range of emotions that EJ Noyes taps into in her novels. The complexity and believability of the situations and character dynamics is both heartbreaking and captivating. I don’t have much time for reading, but I enjoy my time spent listening to EJ’s novels! Abby Craden is an awesome narrator, too. Makes this story epic.

I like how the character build herself back by doing it for herself and not just for the love that she wanted. The directness/honesty of the other forced some self realizations. Life wise, this is a good story.

If not for a part of this book, in which the main character said that “she isn’t some dumb jock” (because she has a magna cum laude in physics!), I probably would’ve given this a five stars.
The character is an athlete, and athletes have an intelligence on their own. Sports is not just physical, it’s also mental. A lot of training goes on both the physical and mental part. That’s why the term Sports IQ exists. Not everyone needs to be good in academics just to say that they’re not dumb! And this part is what’s actually wrong in most educational systems.
I was just hoping that a book with sports in it would magnify that but this did not. So that’s disappointing.

I’m sure the book was great. In fact, the parts I got to listen to were great. Unfortunately, there were big, HUGE chunks missing from the recording. I’ve gotten used to scribd being choppy between chapters, but this was so much worse - this was like half chapters completely missing. I feel like I missed so much. Very disappointed with scribd for ruining this recording.

Not a bad book. I just thought some part of the story was unnecessary. But quite interesting how the story of both characters develop with the time.
