TRAIL

Aotearoa Land of the long white cloud

New Zealand… Emerald green rolling hills, littered with fluffy white sheep, the All Blacks, adventure sports and backdrop for The Lord of the Rings (one of my all-time favourite movies). I live here now with approximately 1 million other South Africans.

You cannot walk through the shop or down the street without hearing someone speak Afrikaans, which is quite comforting when you’re in a foreign country. Far more valuable though, is finding someone who shares the same interests.

When my husband Dave and I moved to New Zealand in 2019, we knew no one! That can be challenging. When I was scratching around for trails to run on, I had no idea where they were and spent ages on the side of the road staring at my phone trying to figure out where I was.

I would run boring loops around my neighbourhood or venture into the forest and get lost. (It’s actually a great way to learn the lay of the land.)

Finding Fart Friends

One thing that happens when you move country is you normally have to say goodbye to many of the people, places and things you hold dear. I've never been one to have a large group of friends.
