New York Times bestselling and RITA® Award-winning author Rachel Gibson’s

Simply Irresistible!

Georgeanne Howard, charm school graduate and Southern belle extraordinaire, leaves her fiancé at the altar when she realizes she just can’t marry a man old enough to be her grandfather, no matter how rich he is. John Kowalsky unknowingly helps her escape, and only when it’s too late does he realize that he’s absconded with his boss’s bride. At the height of his hockey career, this bad boy isn’t looking to be anybody’s savior but his own, no matter how beautiful this angel may be. But a long night stretches ahead of them—a night too sultry to resist temptation.

When Georgeanne and John meet again, she is on her way to becoming Seattle’s domestic darling and he is past his hellraising ways. But he is shocked to learn that their single unforgettable night in paradise produced a daughter, and he is determined to be a part of her life. Georgeanne has loved John since the moment she jumped into his little red Corvette seven years ago, but she doesn’t want to risk her heart again. Is he really a changed man? And will he risk the wrath of his boss, and one final chance at glory, to prove that this time his love will be everlasting?

Rachel Gibson

Rachel Gibson began her fiction career at age sixteen, when she ran her car into the side of a hill, retrieved the bumper, and drove to a parking lot, where she strategically scattered the car’s broken glass all about. She told her parents she’d been the victim of a hit-and-run and they believed her. She’s been making up stories ever since, although she gets paid better for them nowadays.

Escaping her wedding to a much older man, Georgeanne Howard runs into hockey star John Kowalsky, who reluctantly and unknowingly, helps his boss's bride make her getaway. Seven years after sharing an unforgettable night together, Georgie and John meet again, but this time the sparks are flying for a completely different reason as Georgie has been keeping a life altering secret. Can these two overcome their anger and resentment to find happiness together?

Despite the fact that neither the hero nor the heroine are particularly likeable characters, their romance works for some reason. Perhaps it is because they deserve each other.

John is a self-absorbed narcissist with an ego the size of a Mack truck, and Georgie is a selfish and manipulative shrew. Their behavior toward one another is simply appalling with both acting in spiteful and vindictive ways. Nevertheless, the intensity of their chemistry somehow compensates for it all, which is a sign of Gibson's skillful plotting and immersive writing style.

The secondary romance between Mae and Hugh is much more engaging, and there are some wonderfully sweet and funny moments between John and his daughter. Thankfully, the sporting elements play only a minor role and the story does not get bogged down with the tedium of boring sport descriptions.

All in all, a light and sexy read, but beware the obnoxious characters.

I normally don't read romance, but for some reason this was on my kindle (not kidding, I really don't remember ever buying this or being interested in it) and I was looking for something light, so read it. I enjoyed it as a pleasant diversion. The characters were pretty interesting, even though they were pretty stock, and the plot, while very formulaic, was just original enough to remain interesting. The only minor complaint I have, bringing my rating down to 3 stars, is the artificial misunderstanding which keeps the couple apart until the end of the book. But the sexy times were pretty good!

This book was as lot of fun. I was a little skeptical at first because Georgie seems like an indecisive, nice nitwit. So it's great to see that was then and this is now--grown up and doing better all around.

I have to be honest. I almost didn't read this one all the way through. I started it and was so irritated by the first few chapters that I left it on my bedside table and read four other books before picking it up again. I found the heroine frustrating, the hero unappealing, and the story just all around uninteresting. For some reason, though, I did pick it up again, and I'm glad I did. Once the story fast forwarded by several years, everyone and everything became not just more enjoyable -- I was actually eager to drop everything in order to get back to it. The unlikable and annoying characters not just became more likable and less annoying -- they actually acknowledged how unlikable and annoying they had been. I think of everything my favorite part was Lexie and how she reacted to the gradual changes in her life. It was among the more realistic portrayals of a child (and how she might behave in these situations) I've read. My least favorite part (other than the beginning) was the behavior of Mae (the best friend) toward Hugh (the other best friend). It seemed unnecessarily antagonistic. And then, of course, it wasn't. Which is pretty standard as these things go, but not my favorite convention. Oh, the one other thing to mention was that there seemed to be a lot of attention paid to Mae's brother's sexual orientation. Well, to sexual orientation in general. It seemed a little bit out of place in a disconcerting way; I couldn't decide if it was just something the author felt strongly about, or if it was a sign of the times. I'm hoping that, as the series progresses, it doesn't show up quite as much as it kept pulling me out of the story.

This is one of my all time favorite Gibson books. Everyone talks about her other hockey books, but this one gets overlooked far too often. I adore John and Georgie both.

The heroine isn't shown in a very flattering light at the beginning of the novel. She's getting ready to marry a man 50yrs her senior for his money, can barely read and looks like a centerfold pinup. Gibson really makes her a truly sympathetic character, though. She isn't the type to feel sorry for herself, or wallow in her misery. She puts on a positive attitude and tries to make the best of whatever bad situation she finds herself in. Because of the way she was raised the reader can really relate to her, even though it doesn't seem like it in the beginning.

John has his own demons to face. He's struggling with the pain of losing his wife. He drinks too much in the beginning, and is selfish and rude a lot of the time. But he grows a lot over the course of the novel, too. He puts his life back together and deals with his issues as best he can.

The secret baby plot is one I enjoy but only if it's done well. It isn't done well very often. Gibson is one of the few who can make it work well. Which she did here. I completely understood Georgeanne's reasons for not telling John about their baby. Even though I hurt for him, knowing he missed so much of his daughter's life, I couldn't be angry at Georgie for not telling him.

This is Gibson at her best.

First in her Chinooks series, it took me a little while to warm up to the storyline - and John, it's big, brawny, hockey player hero. I'm not much of a hockey fan. But after half way through the book I was into it. Georgeanne and John's one night together has repercussions that haunts both of them years later. I did have a bit of a problem with the way Georgeanne kept their daughter a secret, but Lexie was adorable and I loved to see how she interacted with John. What is it lately, the last couple of books I've read involve either babies or cute kids? Sweet story and smokin' hot love scenes. Will definitely continue with the series.
