About this audiobook
A Shocking Scandal...Gabriel Angelstone, handsome scourge of the ton, has taken one of life's lessons to heart: Love ruins everything. But the irresistible challenge of seducing the Portrait Divorcée, a woman whose past is every bit as scandalous as his own, quickly has him rethinking that conclusion. The last thing the Imogen Mowbray needs is to have her name connected to that of the equally infamous rake known as Brimstone, but the infuriating man has made it very clear that he's bent on nothing less than her complete surrender. Rich widows take lovers. Poor divorcées become mistresses. And those with powerful families tread carefully, lest they incite their family's wrath, a tragic outcome Imogen is all too familiar with...
Warning: Don't let the cartoon cover fool you, Romantic Times rated this book a "scorcher".
Editor's Note
Fit in or find happiness…
Isobel Carr’s “Rules for Rogues” series continues in “Scandal Incarnate,” where the heroine from the previous book, “Sin Incarnate,” brings together two walking scandals at a house party. The heroine of this book is a divorcee, making her unwelcome at most proper Society events, and the last thing she needs is another scandal. But then she meets the hero, a rake whose charm is as plenty as his conquests, and she has to decide whether she wants to fit in or she wants to be happy.

Isobel grew up in the lively historical re-enacting community of Northern California. She’s made and worn the clothes of people from Ancient Rome up to the Roaring 1920s. She’s cooked and eaten their food, and experimented with their entertainments and art forms. She also grew up around numerous writers of historical fiction and science fiction and fantasy (it was impossible not to as a child of the 70s in the Society for Creative Anachronism), so being a writer seemed a perfectly normal career choice. She currently lives in Oakland, California, with a 250lb English Mastiff named Mycroft and a coop full of chickens named after Georgette Heyer characters. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I'm glad George was in this book as well, as she is my favorite character in the series.
This story wasn't as good as the 1st, but the narration was a lot better. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The heroine is so boring and barely has a personality. She rarely talks and is so content to be a victim who won’t even fight back. I found myself wondering what was so attractive about her, beyond good looks. I couldn’t finish the book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was cute. nothing too upsetting. Liked the hero Gabriel and that George was in the story a lot — love her story in the first book. imogen is a bit lackluster and that weakens the story. It is understandable that her husband and brother have crushed her spirit to a degree but it is hard to understand what Gabriel sees in her, or George for that matter, after the first 1/3 of the book. The book relies on her being scared and whimpy. Also, it would have been more fun if imogen and Gabriel had more sophisticated witty and intellectual banter. They start that way but then it all become lust — they can’t help but fall into each other’s arms every time they see each other. Not bad though
