Maisy Lang loves her job as a manatee tour guide around the springs at King’s Bay on the Homosassa River in Crystal River, Florida. She loves working outdoors every day, teaching visitors about the gentle river giants that she loves and being her own boss. The only thing she doesn't love? Osvaldo Salazar.

Ozzy Salazar is an all-around good guy and everyone's best friend. He is affectionately known in King’s Bay as the Dread Pirate Ozzy, partially due to his Johnny Depp-esque good looks and because of his boisterous personality. Though he loves his job captaining a manatee tour guide boat in Florida, his heart still yearns to be back home in Puerto Rico, and one particularly pretty tour guide is making it more and more attractive for him to head back home with each passing day.

When Maisy's boat breaks down on a nighttime river cleanup excursion, Ozzy gladly helps out the one boat captain on the river that has beef with him and they soon find themselves stuck in a precarious situation. Maisy learns that Ozzy isn't such a bad guy after all as they wait for help, and she starts to warm to the genial, outgoing tour guide. Together they learn that they have more in common than they thought, and she opens up to Ozzy about the manatee conservation foundation that she wants to start.

When Ozzy is called back home to take care of an insurance issue after Hurricane Maria, Maisy suddenly realizes how lonely the river will be when he is gone, and how lonely she'll be too. If Maisy doesn't declare her love to Ozzy, will he stay in Puerto Rico for good?
