Description
When your kid behaves in a way you don't like, it's easy to make their behavior mean something negative - either about you as a parent, them as a person, or their future. All of these negative stories impact how you show up as a parent; and have a negative impact on your child. Thinking something is wrong with you - that you're a bad mom - takes away your child's agency. If it's your fault they are acting poorly, then they don't have to take any personal responsibility. Thinking something is wrong with your kid - that they are a bad person when they act poorly - takes away your child's sense of unconditional worth at their core. That makes it really hard for them to believe they can change. Shame says "something is wrong with me." Guilt says "I've done something wrong." The more you separate your thoughts about who your kid IS from how your kid ACTS, the easier it will be for them to do the same. Thinking that how your kid acts now is who they'll be in the future doesn't leave your child much room to mature. Think about how much you've grown and changed since you were 12. Are you willing to give your child the same opportunity to grow and change? Listen to this episode to find out how to get out of these 3 negative mindsets so you You'll learnThe parenting advice I give the mostWhy behavior is really just information - and what to do with itHow raising a kid is like baking a special kind of cakeThe long term benefits of unconditional acceptance.
