What is Dopamine? - Understanding the Basics



Dopamine, often referred to as the "feel-good" neurotransmitter, is a chemical messenger vital for conveying signals in the brain. The production of dopamine starts with the amino acid tyrosine. Tyrosine undergoes a series of transformations, eventually becoming dopamine. Interestingly, dopamine is not just confined to the brain. A substantial portion is also produced in the gut. Dopamine doesn't work in isolation.
