The LSU Tigers hosted the Georgia State Panthers Saturday night in Baton Rouge for a late season, out of conference matchup. Georgia State was able to find the end zone on two of their first three possessions, including a 44-yard run from leading running back Marcus Carroll. But 14 points was all she wrote for the Panthers as LSU took care of business 56-14 with a record-tying 8 touchdown night from quarterback and Heisman-trophy hopeful Jayden Daniels.
Daniels tied Joe Burrow's single-game touchdown record with 8; Burrow's record-setting day came against the Oklahoma Sooners in the College Football Playoff during the 2019 season. Daniels accounted for six touchdowns through the air and spread out the love to four different receivers who found the end zone: WR Malik Nabers, WR Brian Thomas, WR Kyren Lacy, and freshman TE Mac Markway who scored for the first time as an LSU Tiger. Daniels also found the end zone twice with his legs.
Backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier got some work later in the fourth quarter, but why did the coaching staff pull Daniels before breaking the team record for most touchdowns in a single game?
