The LSU Tigers football team was ranked in the top five of the college football AP Preseason polls with hopes to get back to the SEC Championship game for the second time in Brian Kelly's two years as head coach and even punching their ticket to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2019 when Joe Burrow, JaMarr Chase, and Justin Jefferson ran the table. But those hopes all died Saturday night in Tuscaloosa once the Tigers lost their third game of the year eliminating them from contention for the SEC West and the College Football Playoff. So if they don't have their loftiest goals within reach, what is left to play for?
LSU still has the opportunity to go 9-3 if they win out the rest of the season with an opportunity to potentially get to a New Year's Six game. LSU has the opportunity to notch a tenth win and have back-to-back ten win seasons to show for the Brian Kelly era. LSU has three winnable games to round out their schedule against Florida Gators this weekend, Georgia State, then finally Texas A&M Aggies to finish out the season. While it isn't going to be easy, it is still possible. While it isn't the SEC Championship or College Football Playoff, it is still important for the growth of the LSU football program.
