    Crushing Anxiety - Amanda Sinclaire

    Introduction

You know those days, when it feels like life just keeps throwing more and more shit at you, like the whole world is conspiring against

    IMG_0824.jpeg

you, and you just want to crawl under the covers and cry your heart out because it’s all too much, too overwhelming, and you don’t know how you’re going to keep going? When you’re holding your breath, because it feel like if you let go, everything will fall apart?

    Yep. Me too.

I’m hoping that if I share a bit of my story, and the techniques I use for managing to overcome those awful feelings, then maybe I can help you learn to take a deep breath, let go of the fear and stress, and know that everything is going to be just fine. You’ve got this.

    About this book

This isn’t one of those ‘woo woo’ mindfulness and gratitude type books. I’ve tried those things over the years, and I know they work really well for other people. Just not for me. I’m a practical person — and not a very patient one. Yes, I see the irony! That mindfulness and meditation are exactly what I ‘need’, but…five minutes into a yoga session and I’m looking at the clock wondering why time is standing still.

This isn’t a long academic book with lots of scientific explanations and clinical psychology terms to try and wrap your head around. There’s lots of great resources online that can explain those better than I ever could.

This isn’t a book that promises to miraculously transform your life — because that’s just not how real life works. There’s no magic fix that will make our lives perfect, because we can’t control everything that happens in life. And there’s no such thing as a state of permanent happiness anyway! As the Dalai Lama says, The suffering is what makes you appreciate the joy. A more realistic goal is to live a life of satisfaction, and enjoy those precious moments of true happiness.

So what is it about then? Why should I keep reading?

This is a short guide to the simple, practical things that work for me. I’ve done a lot of research over the years, and been lucky to learn from some very smart people. This book is my summary of those things. I’ve done the hard reading, so you don’t have to!

I always feel better when I start planning, even just for the smallest of tasks. Like I’m in control of my world again, and life
