    CHAPTER ONE

    It all started at the end of the summer after my first year of college. At least the big event happened then. In reality, it had been going on my whole damn life. Just sit back and let me explain.

    Becky Lynn and I had been best friends since we were five years old. We were inseparable, and our parents used to joke about us growing up and getting married since as early as I remembered. I even thought that would be the case when I was around ten years old or so. Who wouldn’t want to marry their best friend?

    It was when I was in middle school and a genuine interest in girls began to develop that I started to have my doubts. Becky Lynn and I stayed best friends all through middle school, and through high school. We even went to prom together. Neither of us seriously dated anybody else because people always thought we were together. Becky Lynn did date a football player for a few months, but he started getting jealous of me, and she broke it off with him immediately.

    After high school, I went to college out of state, but Becky Lynn decided she was going to go the first two years at the local community college. Becky Lynn was upset about my decision. We had a fight about it. She didn’t understand why I’d want to go to school so far away. At eighteen, this was the first time it actually felt like she was my girlfriend, though I’d never
