    CHAPTER SEVEN

    Stephanie felt like her entire outlook was changed by the incident. She had been angry at Jake and Vanessa, but at the same time, things were put in such stark perspective. She never should have allowed Jake to pull away from her like that. He was hers and his place was to serve her. That was very clear, and it was by allowing this to happen that she had learned her lesson.

    Jake had tried to call her almost immediately after the incident. He had given her a couple days to cool off, and then the calls started. He left a lot of frantic messages at first because she simply ignored him, but finally, after a week had passed, she picked up the phone.

    Hello, Munchkin, she answered in a sunny voice.

    Thank God, you answered, Jake
