    CHAPTER ONE

    When Drew had transferred from his undergraduate university to grad school, he had chosen to live on campus. Two choices were available, his own apartment, or one with a roommate. He had no idea that choosing to share an apartment with a roommate would have such a huge impact on his grad school experience.

    He arrived first. The place was already furnished, and he just took a quick look around to get to know the layout and an idea of where everything was. He checked to make sure all the appliances were in working order. He looked at both bedrooms and decided both were roughly the same size. He chose the one that had a window facing the back, because he preferred the one with a view of something other than the parking lot.

    With all that taken care of, he ducked out to go to the grocery store. When he got back, he just went to his bedroom and pulled out a book. Classes started in two days, and he could just have that time to relax before the stress of graduate studies would start to set in. He wasn’t sure if his roommate would show up today, or tomorrow, but he was a little nervous about meeting him. He had never lived with a roommate before, let alone one who was a stranger. He had heard plenty of horror stories.

    Around seven o’clock he could hear a key turning in the front door, and he snapped to attention. He got to his feet and
