Author

Lee Cushing

Lee Cushing is a paranormal thriller author and a lifelong fan of the occult. Having become obsessed with supernatural folklore and the world of horror from an early age, Lee has spent years studying tales of the occult and immersing himself in stories of otherworldly phenomenon. He’s also the owner of a number of vampire and horror-related groups in Facebook, where fellow fans of the supernatural come together to celebrate and discuss all things paranormal.  His debut novel, Voodoo Mambo, blends high-stakes action and shadowy agencies with a dark underworld of demonic creatures and their insidious plots to attack humanity. Lee draws his inspiration from classic horror movies – including Hammer and Universal – as well as beloved TV shows including Doctor Who, Supernatural, The Avengers, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

    DIVINE INTERVENTION

    CHAPTER ONE

"Why do you look like the nervous one?" Aimee asked.

Her mom, Deborah, had a tendency to be a little high strung. She was a planner by nature but one that had never reconciled herself to the fact that planning did not always equal the desired results. When elements that she could not control intruded, you could see it in her face: a tension that built up until her normally pale skin took on a reddish glow and veins extruded in her forehead. Like a pressure boiler about to pop.

You look like you’re going to have an aneurism, Aimee said, placing a hand gently on her mom’s shoulder.

I just want everything to be perfect, her mother said.

Everything will be, Aimee said. Even if it isn’t, it will be.

She smiled, hoping in vain that her mother would return it, hoping that she could somehow impart her own attitude of grateful acceptance to this woman who had done so much for her. Because it would be okay. Aimee was convinced that this was the secret to weddings. She’d seen them go wrong before, had served as bridesmaid to college buddies who went full bridezilla, setting up impossible expectations and then being crushed when reality asserted itself. But Aimee was certain she knew the lifehack that could lead to a successful wedding. You could drive yourself crazy trying to control every detail, or you could just open yourself up to the experience. If you tried to hard to micromanage the event, you’d doom yourself to disappointment, but if you opened yourself up to experiencing whatever the day threw your way with gratitude and a sense of humor, problems would just become part of the backdrop of pleasant memories. Imperfections would become a little seasoning in the stew. Flower girl gets lost on her way up the aisle? Bridesmaid visibly drunk? Bride stumbling over vows? All good. All flavor.

But her mom didn’t see it that way. Aimee could read it in her face. Tension. Anxiety. It was painful to look at. But why? So far, everything had gone well. The rehearsal dinner had come off without a hitch. Pat’s father had given the first speech and Aimee’s Uncle Dwight had given one on her behalf, in lieu of Aimee’s own father, Frank who, sadly, was no longer
