Lee Cushing

Lee Cushing is a paranormal thriller author and a lifelong fan of the occult. Having become obsessed with supernatural folklore and the world of horror from an early age, Lee has spent years studying tales of the occult and immersing himself in stories of otherworldly phenomenon. He’s also the owner of a number of vampire and horror-related groups in Facebook, where fellow fans of the supernatural come together to celebrate and discuss all things paranormal.  His debut novel, Voodoo Mambo, blends high-stakes action and shadowy agencies with a dark underworld of demonic creatures and their insidious plots to attack humanity. Lee draws his inspiration from classic horror movies – including Hammer and Universal – as well as beloved TV shows including Doctor Who, Supernatural, The Avengers, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

    Jacob And The Dragon

Jacob’s morning started out like any other mornings in the last three years. But this morning turned out to be like none other.

Early morning was his favorite time, when he would venture into the Ashen Forest to check on the previous night’s traps.

But today – not far from home – was something else.

From deeper within the woods – deeper than he normally cared to go – came a tremendous bellowing that rattled the trees and stopped him in his tracks.

He froze. His heart pounded. High above, flocks of startled birds took to the air. Frenzied, rustling sounds surrounded him as woodland creatures fled from the source of the noise. The roar emitted pain and anger, and it did not belong to any kind of animal that Jacob had ever encountered. Many of the townsfolk in Orrinshire insisted that the Ashen Forest teemed with monsters, but Jacob had been going into the woods for most of his life and he had never come across any creature that wasn’t more afraid of him than he was of it. People liked to tell stories of vile, slavering beasts that stole children from their homes, or faeries that lured innocent maidens into dense patches of fog from which they never came out. But those kinds of stories were usually told late at night over tall mugs of dark ale. In other words, they were not the sort of stories that a sensible 13-year-old boy like Jacob Finley would put any stock in.

And yet, there was no denying that whatever was making that awful noise was neither man nor beast. Most children would have turned and run home at hearing that sound, but Jacob was not most children.

Moreover, he revered the forest and its flora and fauna. Over the last three years, he had made many friends with creatures, like birds, squirrels and
