    Everyone has been there. You've made arrangements to do something significant. At the very least, it's significant to you. Perhaps you have grand plans to establish a business or to build the body of your dreams. Perhaps you wish to learn to play the piano or write a novel. Whatever it is, you are eager and confident that you can do it if you stay with it.

    It's exhilarating to picture oneself reaching success at something meaningful and gratifying to you.

    However, once the first exhilaration wears off, skepticism and discomfort creep in. You begin to hunt for and notice the countless difficulties that are going to obstruct your progress. Rejection and criticism are a source of concern.

    You cannot be seriously harmed by rejection or criticism. They can't hurt you physically or lock you up in a dungeon.

    However, anticipating the emotional anguish that rejection and criticism can inflict can force you to abandon your initial plans. Returning to your regular life may appear to be the more prudent option.

    But a part of you dies every time you back out of the huge adventure you planned for yourself.
