    Foreword

A basic definition of sonship is simply the relationship of a son to his father. I believe that this relationship is significant as it pertains to the identity, purpose, and destiny of, not only the son, but the father as well.  While Javonn is not my son, I have had the opportunity to observe him from a distance and up close enough to know that he understands sonship and can model it for others to learn.

As a person who is disciplined and well-calculated, there is nothing I can identify that he has ever stumbled upon. He is a student at all times, vulnerable and ambitious as a leader, and always looking to improve. Much like a son who watches his father, asks questions, and attempts to imitate his father as he is learning his own way. Javonn’s learning process is very similar. Imagine a little boy watching his father work under the hood of a car.  He says nothing, but he watches every move and every detail.  He’s focused so intently in the moment that all he hears is the sound of tools twisting and turning, sounds of metal clanging, and the smells of oil outside.  All of this becomes a part of his learning.  He never forgets that moment, but each time daddy is there, he is learning something different.

So, the day comes for the little boy to do it himself.  He has grown into a man, but along the way, he studied more on his own.  His dad allowed him to help as he got older. He practiced on his own vehicles.  Yet, through all of these moments, he’s always known that a time would come for him to be the father.  He knew that a time would come when someone would have to learn from him, so he was always preparing.  Therefore, when his time came, he was ready and prepared to impart that same skill. This book details what he has processed and learned for years. I am confident that his insight and wisdom will offer a level of impartation that is both convicting and life-changing. My encouragement is for anyone that is reading this book to not only read it, but to process it.  Take your time, diligently comprehend it, and embrace the impartation of sonship.

    Introduction

I’m excited you have decided to take on this journey with me. When you read the title Becoming a Son, I’m pretty sure you were saying to yourself, I thought I just had to be born a male child, and l was instantly a son to my parents. That is correct, but when we take a deeper look into what a son really means, it speaks of a relationship. Think about it― usually the next word to come after son is of, meaning being directly related to a parent, and in this case, the Father. Sonship not only speaks of identity, but it also speaks of purpose, function, and authority. Before we toggle through this journey of becoming a son, the question I want to answer is, How did I get here? Like most people who are converted to Christianity or accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, I didn’t know too much of anything. As a babe in Christ, I knew a few things like praying and studying the Bible were important, but I didn’t know how to pray and I hated reading. It wasn’t that I hated reading the Bible, I just hated reading because I couldn’t comprehend anything I read. I would read the Bible every night before I went to sleep, and I wouldn’t stop reading until I was able to understand. I prayed nightly for comprehension and understanding . When the Lord started to help me in my reading, He began to give me language and revelation for my prayers. I didn’t know, at the time, that I was gradually growing into a child of God. Now, some people may have heard that we are all God’s children, but I'm here to tell you that this is false. Being a babe in Christ, I remember reading Romans 8:9, which says, You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. After reading this scripture, I knew everyone wasn’t a child of God, because if that were the case, why do so many people live a life that doesn’t reflect the character of God?

A desire to seek after God’s nature and who He is began to burn within me greatly. The truth is, the more I studied His Word, the more I found myself. Which brings me to the foundational scripture for this book, Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be Lord of all (Galatians 4:1 KJV). That’s when it hit me that there’s something greater than being a child of God, and that’s being a son of God! In the past three to five years, I found myself desiring different things, including leaving a legacy. At the time, I didn’t realize that the inheritance that our Heavenly Father has for us isn’t for babes or children; it’s for the sons of God. It is for those who fully mature into His nature, character, attributes, etc. What I was experiencing these past years is called sanctification. The rooting out of my will for His, and the cleansing/ renewing of my mind for His. A son is a true reflection of his father, not just in their looks, but in their spirit. And as we navigate through the Anatomy of a Man Illustration, I pray that you open your hearts, take some notes, and get ready to receive the Spirit of the Father.

    Chapter 1

    Feet

Feet speak of the stability of the man, but it also speaks of the foundation.

    The word foundation means:

    1. the lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level.

    2. an underlying basis or principle.

    3. the action of establishing an institution or organization on a permanent basis, especially with an endowment.

Foundation - What is the foundation of a man, specifically a man of God? Is it his family, finances, security, integrity, or character? All of these are great answers and are important pieces of the foundation of any man of God. The foundation of a strong man of God is the Word of God. This is important because the foundation has to be solid, unshakable, and unmovable. The Word of God is not only substantial, but eternal as well. With the Word being a solid foundation, this means that whatever you build upon this foundation will not only stand the tests of time, but will exist throughout all eternity. If a man’s foundation is God’s
