About this ebook

GOD has declared that He has a special purpose for the male child and this is a point He wants stressed. Initially Pharaoh had tried to kill the sons but God did a saving work. The Psalmist in 127:3-5 writes that, “Sons are a heritage from God, like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies.”

So, in essence sons are the arrows in the LORD’s Hand. There is a special purpose for the male children in God’s Kingdom and as long as you are a son, you better know that God is talking to you. In this study we shall go a little deeper into the lives of some selected sons and the special purpose God assigned to their lives. However, from the onset do note that what is said here is NOT the end all of these sons but just an eye-opener given by God.
Probably you are not a son but a daughter. That shouldn't prevent you from seeing what God was doing through and with His children in the Bible. So don’t be put off by it being a study of the male child. God ministers in a way He knows best and it is the Holy Spirit’s desire that you be challenged by the lives of these godly men. So whoever you may be, look at it this way, God is talking to you and He doesn't care whether or not you are a son because He is not sexist, He wants to talk to your life and mine, perhaps bring a change in the best place. God loves all of us the same so join us as we explore the lives of sons whom God purposed to be.

An interesting fact to know about sons is that they are neither male nor female but:
Those who have been given the power and right by God John 1:12.
Those who have the Spirit of God testifying with their spirit that they are sons of God Romans 8:16.
Those that understand their right as heirs Romans 8:17.
Those that have been given of God Isaiah 9:6.
Those that have been able to be revealed in the face of an anticipating creation Romans 8:19.
Those who have understood that they are lethal weapons Psalms 127:4-5.

Even after all, is said and done, there is that eager expectation by all creation for the revelation of true sons of God.

    FOREWORD

It is with real pleasure for me to accede to the request of my friend, Dumisani Nkomo, to write a foreword to his book Sons and Sonship. Mr. Nkomo has been part of the Harvest House International Church for a while now. My wife Judie first met Mr. Nkomo while she ministered at the Methodist Church in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. During that period, Dumisani served with the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. The author’s sincerity for God is contagious.

The concept of Sonship in the 21st Century writings and sermons normally takes the form of protégé and protégée. This is an important biblical principle where, a mantle can be passed from fathers to sons. It is however, unfortunate that today many have claimed to be fathers without adherence to the biblical concept and likewise many claim sonship without a proper understanding of what it really means to be a son. In Sons and Sonship, Mr. Nkomo helps to bring home the fact that God has a special purpose for you as a son sons of God.

There is a mandate that God has raised you for. He is saying Son of Faith Arise and Shine carry out the mandate of your father. Every son needs to find their purpose because creation is waiting. "For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God" (Romans 8 vs. 19). This book will, I trust help you identify your purpose and sonship and bringing a revival in your life. Dumisani and his wife Sukoluhle have experienced open heavens in their lives as they have sought God at home and built a sanctuary for God. This unfolding revelation will bless your soul.

    Introduction

GOD has declared that He has a special purpose for the male child and this is a point He wants stressed. Initially Pharaoh had tried to kill the sons but God did a saving work. The Psalmist in 127:3-5 writes that, Sons are a heritage from God, like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies.

That shouldn’t prevent you from seeing what God was doing through and with His children in the Bible. So don’t be put off by it being a study of the male child. God ministers in a way He knows best and it is the Holy Spirit’s desire that you be challenged by the lives of these godly men. So whoever you may be, look at it this way, God is talking to you and He doesn’t care whether or not you are a son because He is not sexist, He wants to talk to your life and mine, perhaps bring a change in the best place. God loves all of us the same so join us as we explore the lives of sons whom God purposed to be.

An interesting fact to know about sons is that they are neither male nor female but:

Those who have been given the power and right by God John 1:12.

Those who have the Spirit of God testifying with their spirit that they are sons of God Romans 8:16.

Those that understand their right as heirs Romans 8:17.

Those that have been given of God Isaiah 9:6.

Those that have been able to be revealed in the face of an anticipating creation Romans 8:19.

Those who have understood that they are lethal weapons Psalms 127:4-5.

Even after all, is said and done, there is that eager expectation by all creation for the revelation of true sons of God.

The purpose of this book is also to challenge you to see yourself in the light of these sons and to encourage you to empathize with them. The revelation on sons came after prayer concerning sons in the church. God then impressed it upon my heart to encourage you to see and find the purpose He has for your life. It is my encouragement that you take out your Bible and study it as we go through the series of sons on the menu. Only then can we pick out what Jesus wants us to see. The Word of God is being revealed to him that takes time to seek His face and it is a wise move to go deeper personally with every son we shall encounter.

Do not be left out of what God is doing in the last days. Paul writing to the Roman Church reveals something exciting "The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed" Romans 8:19. We too have eagerly anticipated the revelation of the sons of God. Whenever God wanted to do something in His Word He always used a son or daughter who has stood out and has been revealed to all creation. The world is watching for your revelation as well.

In the beginning we are told that God created the heavens and the earth and all that constituted it. Everything created was wondering what was to become of everything. All seemed equal and there was need to put in place a hierarchy of authority. There was eagerness which Paul calls a groaning as of childbirth. Creation was eagerly expecting the manifestation of God’s masterpiece of art.

On day 6 God put an end to all of it by creating man in His image. That was the first revelation of a son of God- the opium of creation. Adam went on to give all created things the names by which they are called today and he was the exact image of God only hidden by the flesh that received a breath of life. From that point on creation has waited to see what His sons have been able to do. It is against this background that this study will motivate you to find out what Bible sons have done over the years and what they can do even today. Enjoy it.

    Part One

    Cursing the un-cursable

A curse is an undesirable thing on one’s life. It has its limitations on what we can become. When one is under a curse there are limitations placed upon one’s life. A curse can put an end to a destiny unless it has been dealt with. As we look at some of the curses Scripture tells us about, we need to take stock of our own lives and ask God to help us be curse-proof.

    Chapter One

    Three Curses

    Pharaoh’s Curse

True to the word that the LORD had spoken, Israel grew. We read from Scripture that Joseph, his brothers and all that generation died. But the Israelites were fruitful. They multiplied greatly and became exceedingly numerous so that the land was filled with them (Exodus 1:6). A new Pharaoh came to power. He did not know anything about Joseph and seeing their number decided to curse them. His greatest fear was that they would grow more numerous and even side with the enemy when war broke out and leave his country. To all, this was a genuine concern but there was something more to the equation. Satan was beginning to take note of the threat that Israel was going to pose.

Yes they were in bondage but they were growing too fast for comfort. The devil was trying to stall the inevitable. Even under the bond of slavery the Israelites continued to multiply and dread fell upon Egypt. It seemed as though God was working well in situations they thought were not conducive. The more the Egyptians oppressed Israel the more they reproduced. How could it be that when they were burdened they could multiply? It was God’s purpose to show that no amount of trouble or ruthlessness could divert who He was or His purpose.

Too often in life just after the comfort of living under a man like Joseph we tend to meet up with trouble so severe we end up asking, "Where is God?" It is in such dark times that God says, "For you who revere My Name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings" Malachi 4:2. Why not adopt the attitude of Micah and cry out, Do not gloat over me, my enemy. Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light Micah 7:8. Times may look dreary and desolate but it is times like this that God decides to stand out and show His true nature and character. As a loving God He declares that He will never leave us nor forsake us. To Israel, God saw the need to express His divine purposes. After all, it is He who has the blueprint for all things.

Dear friend, a time is coming when the enemy will increase your frustrations so that you will lose your focus on Jesus. He will be ruthless as this is his nature. Expect the worst to come but know that the light shines better in the darkness. To see the stars well you need a very dark night. Here was Pharaoh making the Israelite lives brutal by way of forced labour. Here was Pharaoh making life unbearable for the Israelites through forced labour. The king was so convinced that this would stop their reproductive qualities.

But he must have forgotten to read God’s command to Israel’s forefather Adam in Genesis 1:28 to be fruitful and increase in number. He must have been a man who did not like reading the book of Genesis because he missed the call from God to Abraham that his descendants would increase and be as numerous as the stars and be countless as the grains of sand. So no matter what comes your way be sure of one thing, when troubles come it is the time God has intended for increase- spiritually, financially, physically and emotionally. It is His charge that when Pharaoh oppresses, you increase.

Pharaoh had had enough so he called the Hebrew midwives Puah and Shiphrah to his palace and gave them orders to kill the boys at childbirth. This pronounced what was to be called Pharaoh’s Curse on the male child. It was Satan who inspired this decision, "If it is a boy kill him, but if it is a girl let her live" Exodus 1:16. However, the two women were God fearing, and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live (v17). Glory to God! Though Pharaoh was king of Egypt, he was not the King of Kings, the One to be feared above all gods and there was no need for the Hebrew women to respect his call.

We need a generation of people who will refuse to obey the call to destroy that which God has built up. We need Puah’s and Shiphrah’s who will refuse to budge even if the command comes from Pharaoh, the evil king of Egypt. Yes you may be a slave in his nation but your call and commitment are first to God then to everyone second. God needs a people who will adopt the attitude of Balaam who said to the king who had hired him, How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the LORD has not denounced? Numbers 23:8 If you have a position of authority over a situation, be careful of how you deal with it lest you find yourself face to face with the wrath of God.

God put an answer to Pharaoh’s question as to why the boys were allowed to live: Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive v19. For a fact Hebrew women were not murderers and they were vigorous for the things of God. Today you will find the average woman just like the women of Egypt- they are murderers! Some have the guts to birth a child and throw them into a toilet. Others have the nerve to smash newborn babies against the rocks. Worse still, others will strangle the life out of these innocent souls, all in the name of not wanting to burden them. Come on! Don’t you realize that you are putting to death the plans and purposes God has for this world?

Today, newspapers are awash with stories of abortion, infanticide and baby dumping. This is simply the curse of Pharaoh coming to life in everyday society. Why would someone have the nerve to destroy that which God has said must be left to live? The issues above are a hotbed but it is painful to note that many great sons and daughters have been killed before they lived out their potential. Please if you are pregnant don’t put to death that which God has brought to life. When we started this book we read from the Word that sons are a heritage and children a blessing from God, keep those blessings alive there is yet a heritage to be attained by these children.

Many sons and daughters have died for no reason at all, some at the hands of God fearless midwives who abort at will. Note that these women are simply fulfilling the devil’s plan to exterminate God’s plan for a fallen society. That child who does not see the light of day probably was carrying the answer to the problems
